Castle Rock State Park

15000 Skyline Boulevard

Los Gatos, CA 95033-8291

Jennifer and Hans Barber will be leading a hike at Castle Rock State Park on Saturday, August 13 at 10am.  Everyone is welcome!  Castle Rock was mentioned as having one of the most thrilling views by Via Magazine

Please allow 15-20 minutes for parking.  When we went to check it out we had a horrible time finding a place to park.  It took 20 minutes of circling back around on Skyline until someone finally left.  You can park in the lot (if it is not full) for $8.00 per car.  If you park just outside of the parking lot on Skyline, you can park for free.

Please bring a full water bottle for EACH person hiking.  Also bring a snack.  There are no trash cans in the park, so you will have to pack out all of your trash.  Be prepared to LEAVE NO TRACE!

We will meet at the Ranger Station in the parking lot.  I will be wearing my tie-dye shirt and tie-dye hat so you cannot miss me!  We will be doing an easy hike from the parking lot down to the deck that overlooks Castle Rock Falls.  I think most people, even little brothers and sisters, can probably handle this hike.  It is a .8 mile hike down.  It takes about 30 minutes to get down there.  We will eat our snack and take some pictures on the deck.

There is a little stream that we will follow down to the Falls.  Your child(ren) may want to play in the stream on the way back up.  You might want to be prepared for this with some creek walking shoes and a towel.

The way back up will take about 45 minutes.  I believe there is a 400 ft elevation difference so it will be a little slower going back up.

(This event counts for the
Summertime Pack Award!  Be sure to check in!)
This is a great opportunity for you to bring your friends that are thinking about joining our Pack.  I would be happy to answer any and all questions about scouting and Pack 43 while we are hiking!  It should be a lot of fun!

Please let me know if you are planning to join us.  That way I will know how many people I am waiting for at the Ranger Station.  Please send me an email to RSVP.
