2013-2014 Public Relations

2013-2014 Public Relations Officer/Webmaster: Alyse Minter

Alyse Minter is a second year graduate student in the CUA Library and Information Science program, with an expected graduation date of December 2014. She is a member of the CHIM cohort. Alyse gained her B.S. from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Prior to entering the LIS field, Alyse worked in the elementary education field. Her career interests include archives and special collections, academic and research libraries, preservation, and genealogy. Why did you decide to pursue a career in librarianship?

I grew up haunting public libraries and have always enjoyed utilizing their services, but didn't consider a career in librarianship until I was exposed to archives/special collections through researching genealogy. My interest was piqued by this novel (to me) career field and I began volunteering in various local institutions. Those experiences confirmed that I was headed the right direction. From there, I enrolled in grad school and recently completed an internship with Smithsonian Institution.

Why did you decide to attend CUA?

CUA is located in what seems to be the cultural heritage capital of the United States, Washington, DC. Also, I was born and raised in DC, so I wanted to return after undergrad. In 2012, I was selected as a recipient of the IMLS-Cultural Heritage Information Management (CHIM) grant.

What do you enjoy most about being a CUA student?

I enjoy the proximity to so many library and archival institutions. Also, I've enjoyed meeting fellow students, as well as engaging with professors who are passionate about their subjects.

What do you enjoy most about being an AGLISS officer?

As a lifelong learner, I enjoy expanding my skill set and gaining new perspectives. I feel the opportunity to network with fellow officers, LIS students, and professionals in the field is invaluable.
