CTM (Center for Topological Matters) aims to explore physics of topological matters. Research on topological matters, represented by graphene and topological insulators, is receiving considerable attention in the international scientific community and is one of the fastest growing fields in condensed matter physics. It is extremely important for both new technology and fundamental issues in physics. With the matter, we are witnessing the paradigm shift of condensed-matter-physics studies where the relativistic quantum mechanical phenomena are realized in condensed-matter systems. Due to the complex nature of the physical phenomena and material issues, however, studies  on topological matter require highly cooperative and concentrated efforts by a group of experts from diverse related disciplines. It should also be emphasized that, despite many exciting applications envisioned utilizing the matter, investigation of the fundamental issues of the matter is a traction engine and thus is of prime importance. In this point of view, establishing CTM dedicated to this research is very promising and timely, particularly when considering the significance of the topic and the rapidly growing competition worldwide.
