This site serves as an online interactive handout accompanying the faculty development workshop offered August 28, 2012 at Chicago State University by Jason Rhode, Assistant Director of the Faculty Development and Instructional Design Center, titled Using Web 2.0 Technologies in the Classroom to Engage and Inspire Students. During this session, several common Web 2.0 technologies were introduced and participants then given the opportunity to further explore selected technologies and begin designing an activity that leverages chosen technology.

Session Goals:

  • Discuss use of technology in learning
  • Define "Web 2.0" 
  • Explore the use of several different types of Web 2.0 technologies, such as: blogs, wikis, and social media in an educational context
  • Brainstorm ideas for use of Web 2.0 technologies to engage students in the learning process
  • Prototype use of a new selected technology for the classroom
