Great Sand Dunes Family Camp

WHAT: Troop 110 Family Camp. Families and/or Individual scouts welcome and encouraged to attend.

WHEN: Friday May, 6 – Sunday May, 8

WHERE: Great Sand Dunes National Park. Piñon Flats, tent only, nonelectric, group site.

HOW: Departure- Troop assembles at CME, May 6, 4:30 pm. Departure planned for 5:00. Scouts should arrive on time to help retrieve necessary equipment from the shed.

Return – May 8, Leave camp at 8:00 am. Arrive at CME at approximately 11:00 a.m.

Directions – From Highway 160, turn north and follow Highway 150 for 16 miles to the entrance of Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve. Continue 5 miles north on the park's main road to reach the campground entrance. GPS: 37.73333, -105.51667

What to bring – All necessary camping/hiking equipment, packs, essentials, etc. Swim gear to enjoy Medano Creek. Extra money for those wishing to rent sand boards.

COST: < $8 per person for campsite (Depending on the number of campers), transportation, firewood & meals (for scouts only) will be charged to scout accounts.

MEALS: Patrol method will be used for scouts only. Grub Masters from each patrol will be responsible for the planning, purchasing, and preparation for their patrol. Patrols will be grouped together depending on size. Family members will plan, purchase, transport & prepare their own meals.

ADVANCEMENT & ACHIEVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES:

Varies. Scouts needing particular requirements for their camping merit badge, cooking merit badge or rank advancement are encouraged to contact the Adult Leaders ahead of time to make necessary arrangements. Camping requirement 9a.1 OR 9a.2 is currently being planned for Saturday morning (Zapata Falls hike).
