Call for Papers

We cordially invite you to submit a paper to the 1st Workshop on Cloud and Server Support for Wearable Computing at MobiQuitous 2014.  The workshop will be held at the 11th International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Systems: Computing, Networking and Service (MobiQuitous 2014), in London, Great Britain.

Recent years have seen the dramatic increase in both the popularity and the capabilities of wearable computers. These devices provide unprecedented ability to track, measure, monitor, and interact with our environment and other devices and individuals. These abilities are augmented with backend cloud- and server-based analysis to gain insight, detect trends, spur interaction, as well as identify and correct problems and keep the devices operational. The rate, specificity, and timeliness of data collection combined with the ongoing personal interaction with the systems make the data problem qualitatively different than the existing big data challenges. Remotely updating, monitoring and maintaining these devices are also significant challenges for large scale operation.

The purpose of this workshop it to bring together practitioners, researcher, vendors, and scholars from the complementary fields of cloud infrastructure, data analytics, and wearable computers, in order to promote an exchange of ideas, develop common benchmarks and methodologies, discuss further collaborations and develop new research directions related to the back-end support for wearable computers.

We seek submissions that cover various aspects of cloud and server support for wearable computing.  In addition to submissions that deal with performance and programmability challenges, theoretical analysis, algorithms, and practical experience in cloud- and server-side for wearable computing, we also specifically encourage submissions that demonstrate or result from the collaboration between cloud and wearable computer practitioners, scholars, researchers, or vendors.  Topics of interest to this workshop include, but are not restricted to:

  • Cognitive computing supporting and servicing wearable computers
  • Use of cloud systems in wearable data analytics
  • Cloud infrastructure for high performance and high productivity
  • Wearable data analytics algorithms and applications
  • Collective data sharing for wearable computers
  • Data compression and storage for wearable computers
  • Fog and cloudlet platforms for wearable computing
  • Remote monitoring and maintenance of wearable computers
Submitted papers must be no more than 8 pages in length. Authors are required to use the ACM Double Column format for their papers (Word, Latex). Each submission will be reviewed by the organizing committee and authors of accepted submissions will have 30 minutes to present their work at the workshop. Accepted papers will be included in the adjunct proceedings of the conference.
