2014 Pinewood Derby

posted Jan 18, 2012, 12:12 PM by Dan Maahs   [ updated Dec 19, 2013, 7:55 AM by CubScout Pack53 ]

Hi Pack 53!

It's that time of year again when scouts and siblings start thinking about how they are going to dominate the Pine Wood Derby!  The specifics for this (school) year"s event are in the attached document.

The race schedule is TENTATIVE.  Please let me know if there are any competing events that affect a particular age group so that we may adjust the schedule to accommodate.

We will be handing out derby kits free of charge to all scouts at the Pack Party next Thursday.  Additional kits may be purchased for $5 each.  Top reasons to buy additional kits:

Why let your scout have all the fun Ð parents can race too in our Open Class!

Keep siblings engaged while building the cars and on Race Day!

Have extra parts available for the occasional whoops!

Try experimental designs in the open class without your scout jeopardizing his chances to dominate his peers!

If you are unable to attend the Pack Meeting next Thursday, please contact me at or 838-6405 to arrange picking up/dropping off kits.

Good luck to you all (except the Webelos I's; Spencer plans to crush you guys!) and have a great Race Day!

The project will be to clear invasive woody brush from the wooded area of Marsh Woods park. Scouts of all ages and parents are needed to help; this hard work, but a lot of fun!

Dates/Times TBA

All volunteers MUST have gloves of some type. The trails may be muddy, so footwear is at your discretion, but hiking boots or old shoes are recommended. If you have bow saws or loppers, please bring those.  An herbicide will be applied to the stumps to prevent re-growth; ONLY adults may apply the herbicide. There will be a bonfire if we are able to procure a burning permit. Either way, we will provide some type of refreshments.
