Short Course on May 12

The short course will involve an outdoor event put on in cooperation with Plastic Ocean Project (POP), a non-profit that has a collaborative relationship with the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. Course participants will participate in debris removal, learn about the inherent dangers of plastics to aquatic organisms, have collaborative discussions regarding ongoing research, and see the connection between the scientific process and environmental outreach in action. As such, we will conduct plastic debris removal by kayak from the Wrightsville beach area in Wilmington, NC, followed by sorting / analysis of collected plastics by type of plastic and size, and will have brief lecture given by Bonnie Monteleone (POP's Director of Science).

Be sure to join us on Thursday after the short course for happy hour at the Ironclad Brewery.

Friday's BBQ dinner will be held on the USS North Carolina with lovely views of the Cape Fear River.

The hotel for the conference is the downtown Courtyard Marriott.

Please book by phone (910-632-2900) and be sure to ask for the CSETAC hotel room block.
