CSAIR Basketball Team Scores First Big Win of the Season!

What started out as an unlikely dream ended up in triumphant victory as the CSAIR Youth Basketball Team stormed to a dominating 48-26 victory in January 2009. The convincing win came against a dangerous squad from Beth EL New Rochelle, who competed to the best of their ability but who ultimately were unable to keep up with with the high powered offense and aggressive defense of the CSAIR seven.

When Yoel Shulman first shared his vision of forming young people's basketball team representing CSAIR in the Westchester Jewish Youth Basketball League, many people were skeptical.

“We were happy to help promote the team and get the word out,“ CSAIR Men's Organization Co-President Dave LaDue commented recently, “but we didn't know if Yoel would be able to generate enough interest. After all, he was starting from scratch. CSAIR never had a team before.”

But, as Dave explained, after Yoel continued to spread his message and the Men's Organization began promoting the formation of the team on it's popular website and weekly email bulletins, the idea began to generate some traction.

“Yoel deserves all the credit for having the original idea and working very hard to put this together,” Dave concluded, “He was unstoppable.”

After recruiting each member personally, Yoel made all the arrangements with the Westchester League, and has taken the helm of the scrappy seven man squad.

The team's determination was clearly in evidence when they took to the court to face Beth EL New Rochelle earlier this year. And in the end they scored a decisive victory by a 22 point margin.

Leading the CSAIR regulars in scoring was Eric Berger with a dominating 18 points. Ben Erichson contributed 12 points of his own. Yoshi Gadasi poured in another 6 points for CSAIR. Sasha Perkal and Adam Freilich each contributed an additional 4 points to the team effort. And Ben Amaral rounded out the team's final total with his own pair of points.

Working together, what started out as Yoel Shulman's improbable notion ended up as a team of CSAIR young people improving their physical fitness, learning teamwork, gaining confidence, and bringing home a victory for CSAIR. Well done, gentlemen
