About NUI, Galway Cricket Club

The University Club comprises of students, staff and alumni of NUI Galway. During the academic year, the main focus of the club is enveloped by indoor cricket with dual semester internal leagues ("Aziz Winter League" and "Javid Spring League") comprising of 5 to 7 teams being played each semester. Each of the league teams are made up of up to 7 players who vary from students, alumni's and guests. The University also participates in an annual inter varsity competition that takes place each January/February. This tournament was pioneered by and has been hosted by the NUIG Cricket Club in Galway, 3 times. The team has reached the finals of it on all three occasions; winning it twice (2008 and 2010). In 2009 while away in Colleraine, they placed 3rd.

During the summer, the club competes in a number of outdoor competitions. For the academics, The Mellon Inter varsity Trophy being the major highlight of their year and is normally held between April and the 2nd week of June. Outside the formalities of the Irish Universities championships, the team becomes a full fledged club once the exams are over and participates in the Connacht League, the Dick O'Neill Cup and the Galway T20 League. 
Many of our players also go on to represent the County Galway First XI in the Munster Leagues and Cup Competitions.

NUI Galway Cricket Club is an affiliate club to County Galway Cricket Club, and plays all of its outdoor home matches in Lydican, Oranmore, Co. Galway.
