Crew 6194 participated in a 12-day expedition to the famous Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico for 2017. We left FLemington on July 25th and flew to Albuquerque, NM to spend a few days sighteseeing and getting acclimated to the altitude. We visited Old Albuquerque, Sandia Peak, the Nationa Nuclear Museum, Old Town Santa Fe, and the Puye Cliff Dwellings before going whitewater rafting the Rio Grande River. From there we headed to Philmont for  a 12-day backpacking trip through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

The Philmont Scout Ranch is 214 square miles of rugged New Mexico wilderness outside of the historic town of Cimarron in northeastern New Mexico. This BSA National High Adventure Base offers backcountry programs like rock climbing, fly fishing, black powder rifles, wilderness medicine, mountain man living, and gold panning. Crew 6194 members climbed the famous Tooth of Time (9,003') and Baldy Mountain (12,441'). They also enjoyedthe  rock climbing, burro packing, black-powder rifle shooting, tomahawk throwing and Cowboy Action Shooting programs. feet above sea level, shoot black powder rifles and learn how to rock climb. Our crew practiced Leave No Trace camping principles during the trek. Venturers carried all of their food, personal and crew equipment in packs weighing an average of about 40 to 45 pounds.
