In grades 5-6, students will have a weekly class with the librarian (jenlinck@ossu.org) to develop the following 21st century skills. Their learning will be assessed on the Craftsbury Academy Habits of Work Scale.


Become Lifelong Readers

   

Find Readalikes and “Just Right Books”- considering   

text level, length, topic/interest, format


Study Authors- influences, inspiration, biography,

body of work


Identify Story Elements: Characters, Plot, Setting, Conflict,

Solution, Theme


Explore Genres

   

Join a Community of Readers

   

Online (Dorothy’s List, goodreads, Writer’s Almanac) and

in person (book clubs, events, interviews, read aloud)


Review and Recommend books


Study Patron Bill of Rights, Censorship dangers,

Banned Book week


Explore other libraries via field trips and online
