The Fauconberg Arms

The famous Inn is named after the Earl of Fauconberg, who lived at nearby Newburgh Pr

iory, and was married 

to Oliver Cromwell's daughter, Mary, who, after her father's death in 1658, is believed to have brought her father's body to the Priory, and that the body is still lying there, in a
bricked -up vault.
