Voice of the People: Ralph Vaughan Williams and Folksong
Coope, Boyes & Simpson, Fi Fraser, Jo Freya, Georgina Boyes

Voice of the People brings together Coope, Boyes and Simpson, whose innovative acappella arrangements of folksongs collected by Vaughan Williams have already won international acclaim, and Classic FM Christmas favourites Fi Fraser, Jo Freya and Georgina Boyes, in a specially written words and music production. Songs that Vaughan Williams noted from the countryside are interlinked with his characteristically perceptive descriptions to give a first-hand account of this exciting period in English music. It’s a rare opportunity to hear the original sources of some of the composer’s best-loved music for concert hall and church, as well as lesser known songs and carols he collected across England.

Tickets £10.00 per person (in advance)

A Christmas candlelit history of Shandy Hall

Shandy Hall will be open just before Christmas for the first time giving the opportunity to experience what Christmas is like in an 18th century parsonage, with candlelit rooms, log fires and traditional decorations.
The curator will give a tour of the house sharing with you the history of the Hall and its many inhabitants over 600 years. The tour will include a chance to glimpse a hidden 15th century wall painting; a unique painting not normally on public display and if you are feeling brave you can venture into the vaulted cellar. This small underground room was built in the 18th century as a wine cellar and is not normally accessible to the public.
After the tour you are welcome to join us for a complimentary glass of mulled wine and a mince pie in the panelled dining room.

Tickets £15 per person.  Limited numbers.
