From the Lion’s Den

The Latest News from the Marvelous Land of Oz!

August 1, 2019

Greetings to all! Cowy here, better known as the Cowardly Lion of Oz.

Happy birthday, Ozma!

Okay, so Ozma’s birthday isn’t for another twenty days. August 21st, to be precise. But this is a special gift to our beloved queen: a brand-new book from Tails of the Cowardly Lion and Friends!

Before I delve into it, though, I should explain that our ordering method has changed a bit. If a book’s description has a link under it that says, “To order, go to Lulu,” just click that link, and you’ll be directed to its Lulu page, complete with ordering instructions. Otherwise, the book’s description should have a “More Information” link. Clicking it will take you to a page where you can contact us on how to order. And now, on to our brand-new volume!

Under the Influence of Oz, by Marin Elizabeth Xiques and Chris Dulabone, is the long-awaited sequel to Xiques and Dulabone’s Havenly Dreams Beneath Oz. You may recall that Havenly Dreams introduced Heartbreak Hostel, haven for Goblin Grotto’s homeless and downtrodden. But something is causing the Hostel’s residents to begin to forget everything, including who they are! I should know, since I was involved in the adventure myself. My faithful friend Tik-Tok, the clockwork man, was right by my side to lend a helping hand. Patricia A. Telles provided the whimsical illustrations.

Another new TOTCLAF tome is The Fairy Wand of Oz, by Marin Elizabeth Xiques and Carol P. Silva. It tells the further adventures of Kelly, first introduced in Hurray for Oz! What happens when she and Ozma decide to switch places for a week? Read the book to find out—and enjoy the gorgeous illustrations by David T. St. Albans.

Also by Carol P. Silva and Marin Elizabeth Xiques is The Umbrellaphant in Oz. The title character, Umbo, introduced in Captain Salt in Oz, is a most remarkable elephant: one who can fly. Join him as he tries to stop the evil-three eyed witch from Ridiculous Rivals in Oz from taking over the Springbok Forest! S.P. Maldonado has illustrated this one in own Ozzy style.

Finally, we have The Cardboard King in Oz, by Gil S. Joel. This one features characters from his much-loved tome The Healing Power of Oz, such as a naughty Nome, a pair of pterodactyls, and the title character: the King of Spades. Again, S.P. Maldonado has Ozzily illustrated this one. All four books feature beautiful full-color covers.

Well, I guess that’s all for now. Keep Oz (and hope) in your heart!
