Review by Diana Roberts
In this charming sequel to L. Frank Baum’s The Sea Fairies, Ozma, Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Patchwork Girl, the Wizard, and Trot wish to go to a seashore in Ev for a picnic lunch. But something goes wrong, and they all wind up in California! Their Wishing Pills having been destroyed, they have no immediate transportation back to fairyland. Making the most of the situation, they enjoy a banquet and toss a beach ball around. But a happy day on the beach is spoiled when Trot and the Patchwork Girl discover something that makes them very sad. You’ll have to find out for yourself what it is. Author Christopher Buckley has re-introduced readers to Aquareine, Queen of the Mermaids, as well as all of the other characters from Baum’s cherished Oz stories. Melody Grandy has added to the book’s charm with her lovely illustrations and beautiful cover.
