Mark Bourque, president of the Stafford Springs Chess Club won first place of the Julius Fuster Open Chess Tournament held Feb 4 in Coventry. 
    8 players competed in the Julius Fuster Open

     Bourque, a national expert, defeated Derek Meredith, another national expert, in the final round.  Meredith tied for second place with Gary Cote and Harrison Fregeau.
     Eight players competed, the mean rating is 1786.  This is the 7th chess tournament Rob Roy has directed at the new chess center in Coventry.  See crosstable on USCF website.
     Eastern Connecticut welcomes Tim McGuiness, a national expert, who recently moved here from California.  McGuiness arrived too late for the tournament, but stayed and enjoyed many G/15 games during the free open house in the skittles room.

      The "Venus de Milo Chess Open" has been scheduled for Sat., April 8 in Coventry.
