There's a YouTube video entitled "Josh Smith- UCLA's Fat Boy Center". That pretty much sums it up. Smith uses his size to carve out space and has very soft hands. Since most of his shots are dunks or layups, his field goal percentage rate will always be high. Smith's game is very limited. He has reportedly lost 30-40 pounds since high school, but he needs to lose more. He isn't a great athlete or shot blocker because he's largely anchored to the floor. At this point, he would be similar to Robert "Tractor" Traylor (R.I.P.) at the next level.

Smith's down sophomore season was a big reason UCLA was a historic disappointment last year. He'll have more help this go around, with blue chip newcomers Shabazz Muhammad and Kyle Anderson joining the fray, but those players are both likely one-and-done candidates. If Smith can bring his game to the next level, he could be the third Bruin taken in the first round next year. He still needs to lose some weight and/or improve his conditioning and work on putting himself in better rebounding position if he wants to play at the next level.
