Canter’s Cave new lodge, Jackson,

What to Bring:

  • Your projects:  a UFO(s) or a new project(s)
  • Clothing and toiletries: towels, soap, bedding including sheets, pillow and blankets (bring a quilt to show and tell during introductions and to use at night)  Sacred Heart provides sheets and blankets.
  • A flashlight and comfortable shoes if you want to hike
  • Snacks for the snack table.  You will share in the preparation of one meal with another retreat participant. 
  • Change for soft drinks available in the big lodge.
  • All your sewing supplies:  machine, extension cord, patterns, thread, quilter's rulers and squares, cutting mat, light for your machine, etc., etc.
  • One iron and an ironing board will be provided, but many people bring their own little iron and pad.

Cost:  $35 per night, for Canter's Cave, plus helping with the food for at least one meal. Canter's Cave has a nice small kitchen with a large refrigerator and a microwave oven.  Think about crockpot type meals.  If you need to go home at night, you can come for $12.00 a day as long as there is table space to sew.

Mealtime sharing of patterns, ideas, fun information about quilting (so bring along anything to share)     

Table of freebies - bring any magazines or patterns you no longer want - others may want to use them.  These can be offered free or for sale.                                                                   

Demonstrations and help for each other.

Directions to Canter’s Cave:

From Chillicothe – St. Rt. 35 east from St. Rt. 50/35 split, go 18 miles.

From Athens – St. Rt. 32 west to St. Rt. 35 west and go 6 ½ miles.

Canter’s Cave is located 6 miles northwest of Jackson, Ohio, 1 mile off St. Rt. 35.  There is a small sign, either way, for Canter’s Cave, which is located on Cave Road.  When you turn onto Cave Road, go about 1 mile.  At the crossroads, go left into the park and then up the gravel driveway to the lodge on the hill.  There is another larger lodge further down the park road.  If you go that far, turn around back to the lodge on the hill.  It is called the 4-H Leadership Center.

Breakfast (on your own, bring foods you like and want to share)

Lunch is at noon

Dinner is at 6:00 p.m.

You can sew all day and as long as you want to at night.  Rooms are off the work area with a personal bathroom in rooms at Canter's Cave and groups of rooms at Sacred Heart.  Rooms have 2 – 3 sets of bunk beds at Canter's Cave and single or double beds at Sacred Heart Retreat.  Sacred Heart has an indoor swimming pool, so bring your swimsuit.
