Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program:  Deadline: June 14, 2013
Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants are pleased to be able to continue with our scholarship program for the 6th year. We will be awarding up to $1,000 to the winner(s) each year. Big Sun Scholarship:    Deadline: June 21, 2013
The Big Sun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship ($500) to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating. The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community. Pensacola Christian College:

The Balanced Man Scholarship:  If you are a high school senior whose life exemplifies a Sound Mind and a Sound Body, you may qualify  for a chance at scholarships worth $1,000, $750, $500, and $250. This scholarship is available to male high school seniors attending the University of Alabama in Fall 2013. All applications are due by May 1st and finalists will be notified no later than August 8th.   Applicants have no obligation to join or affiliate with SigEp to be eligible for the scholarship. ARTBA Highway Worker Scholarship Program Accepting Applications: The American Road & Transportation Builders Association’s Foundation is now accepting applications for the “Lanford Family Highway Worker Memorial Scholarship Program,” which provides financial assistance to help the children of highway workers killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty pursue post-high school education. The scholarships, which have a value up to $5,000, have helped more than 100 worthy students from across the nation.

Applicants must be children of highway workers killed or permanently disabled in roadway work zone accidents and the applicant’s parent must have been employed by a transportation construction firm or a transportation public agency at the time of the incident. Scholarship awards must be used to attend a post-secondary institution of learning that requires a high school diploma or Graduate Equivalent Degree (G.E.D.). Master’s degree and Ph.D. students are not eligible.

Home Builders Scholarship:  Students wishing to study the building trades are invited to apply for a scholarship from the Alabama Home Builders Foundation. The deadline for submitting a scholarship application is March 15, 2013.

The AHB Foundation, an arm of the Home Builders Association of Alabama, awards scholarships to students who desire to study the building trades at any two-year, four-year or technical school in Alabama. Trades include brick masonry, carpentry, roofing, electrical technology, HVAC, and others.

To apply for a scholarship, one must be an Alabama resident who is pursuing a construction-related degree. The Foundation will accept applications from high school students, as well as students attending accredited community or junior colleges, technical or trade schools, and four-year universities in Alabama. The purpose of the scholarship program is to enlist Alabama’s top students into the home building and remodeling industries.

Tuscaloosa Teachers Credit Union Scholarship:  TTTU will award two $2,500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors this spring. To be eligible, the student or a member of his or her immediate family must be a member in good standing of the credit union. Immediate family is considered the mother, father, brother, sister, or grandparent of the student. Applications will be available after January 13th at area high schools and all locations of TTCU. No minimum GPA, ACT, or SAT score is required; however, academic performance, community service, and financial need will be considered. Completed applications must be received in our downtown office located at 2520 6th Street in Tuscaloosa no later than March 11, 2013.

DCH Foundation Scholarship:  If you are planning on a career in the healthcare profession, you may qualify for one of several scholarships ($1,000 – 3,000) available through DCH.  Applications may be downloaded from the following websites:  www.thedchfoundation.org and www.dchsystm.com.  Applications are due no later that 4:00 p.m. on March 28, 2013.
 
 
The EWI Scholarship Program (EWISP):   An annual, competition-based program which awards more than $200,000 in college scholarship money to qualifying high school seniors each year. Students are nominated by their schools to participate in the scholarship competition. Judges select winning students based on their scholastic achievement, leadership qualities, good citizenship and extra-curricular activities. High school seniors first apply for EWISP and then compete at the local Chapter level where award levels vary. Chapter level winners are submitted to the Corporate level for a chance to win one of multiple scholarships. Scholarship Awards range between $1,000 and $5,000. The EWISP Scholarship is recognized by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the American Vocational Association.  The deadline for the application is March 29, 2013. Best Buy Scholarship Program:  Students in grades 9-12 living in the U.S. and Puerto Rico are eligible to apply.  Students who demonstrated good grades, commitment to community service and/or work experience are eligible to apply.  Dates to apply:  December 26, 2012 – February 15, 2013.  Apply online at http://pr.bby.com

Playing With A Purpose Scholarship:  Must currently be a varsity level athlete with at least a C average.  For more information go to www.playingwithpurpose.org.   Deadline to apply: February 1, 2013.

University of Alabama Department of Theatre and Dance:  If you are interested in pursuing a degree in Theatre you are invited to attend auditions for departmental scholarships and admission to the musical theatre track, as well as a portfolio review for design/tech students on Saturday, January 26, 2013.  Registration forms are available in my office.

 

University of Alabama Art and Art History Scholarship:  Three full-tuition academic scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshmen students who plan on majoring in studio art or art history.  These scholarships will be based on the quality of the student’s work and are contingent upon the student’s admission to The University of Alabama for the fall semester of 2013.  Application materials are posted on the website at http:/art/ua/edu/site   Deadline is February 4, 2013.

Shelton State Community College's scholarship application deadline is March 1, 2013. They have available academic, ambassador, career technical, athletic, cheerleading, summer studies (s3) program, REACH, and fine arts scholarships. College Counts Scholarship:  Must demonstrate financial need, have a minimum 2.75 GPA and have a 26 or lower ACT.  Deadline:  March 7, 2013.  Go to www.CollegeCountsAlabama.com for more information.

 
Burger King Scholarship:  High school seniors, Burger King employees, their dependent children, spouses or domestic partners are eligible to receive up to $50,000 in scholarship awards for the 2013-2014 school year.  The application period for the 2013-2014 school year begins on November 15, 2012 and ends on January 10, 2013.  Go to www.bkmclamorefoundation.org/WhatWeDo/ScholarsProgram to apply.

 

Washington Crossing Foundation Essay Contest:  Are you a history buff? Enjoy politics? Government or military service in your future? Washington Crossing Foundation has national scholarships available for seniors from $1,000 to $5,000. Deadline is January 15, 2013. Visit www.gwcf.org or call 215-949-8841 for more information.

Thomas E. Huey, Jr. Memorial Scholarship:  BLSA, a chapter of NALS, Inc., the association for legal professionals will award $1,000 to a high school senior in January, 2013.  Scholarship applications will be accepted based upon 50% financial need, 40% grade point average (must be at least a B) and 10% achievements and accomplishments.  The application is available in the counselor’s office and must be postmarked no later than January 4, 2013 and received by the chairman no later than January 7, 2013.  
 

Young American Creative Patriotic Art Award:  This scholarship award sponsored by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary can provide much-needed money for college. Students are to express their patriotism through their art. The Young American Creative Patriotic Art Award contest is open to students in grades 9-12. Students must attend school in the same state as the sponsoring Ladies Auxiliary. Eight scholarships are awarded on the national level. The top prize is $10,000. First prize also includes a plaque and airfare plus 2 nights’ lodging to attend the Ladies Auxiliary National Convention in 2012 in Reno, Nevada. Other prizes range from $5,000 to $500. Home-schooled students are also eligible for this award, but foreign exchange students are not. Brochures containing specific rules and entry form are available for download on the Ladies Auxiliary National website under “Programs” and click on "Youth Activities" at www.ladiesauxvfw.org. Also available is the "Patriotic Art Helpful Hints" flyer with helpful information. The completed entry form MUST be attached to the back of your entry. Scout of the Year:   Some of the VFW’s earliest ties to the community involve youth groups. Few are stronger — and none more lasting — than the close relationship between the VFW and the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Scouts who are registered, active members of a Boy or Girl Scout Troop, Venturing Crew, or a Sea Scout Ship who have received the Eagle Scout Award, Girl Scout Gold Award, Venture Silver Award or Sea Scout Quartermaster Award are eligible to apply for this award. Scouts must be 15 years of age and have demonstrated practical citizenship in school, scouting and the community. Scouts must be enrolled in high school at the time of selection. Note: All applicants still in high school who reach their 18th birthday during the nomination year remain eligible if otherwise qualified. Nationally, the first-place winner receives a $5,000 award, the second-place winner receives a $3,000 award and the third-place winner receives $1,000. Scouts should submit the completed VFW Scouting Scholarship form, resume of high school activities, scouting record, community service record and letters of recommendation to VFW Post 6022 no later than March 1, 2013. Note: A Scout can enter through ONE VFW Post only.

Linly Heflin:  The Linly Heflin Scholarship Committee grants four-year scholarships in the amount of $3,000 per year to a limited number of applicants who have both significant economic need and a sound academic record. Scholarships are restricted to Alabama women attending a four-year Alabama college.   http://www.linlyheflin.org/

 

AXA Achievement Scholarship:  Are you active in your community?  Have you led a project to benefit others?  Have you overcome personal challenges?  Learn more and apply online at www.axa-achievement.com.  Deadline for the Achievement Scholarship is December 1, 2012 and for the Community Scholarship is February 1, 2013.

Free Speech Essay Contest:  To enter, students must submit an essay between 800 and 1000 words on the provided topic.  One $10,000 first prize, one $5,000 second prize, and three $1,000 runner-up prizes will be awarded for the best essays.  Four $500 winners will be chosen from the remaining entrants in a drawing.  Essay contest entries will be accepted from August 1 to November 25, 2012.  Visit www.thefire.org/contest

Mississippi State University Scholarship Guidelines:

An ACT of 24-25 with a 3.0 GPA will receive 50% of the out-of-state tuition and an ACT of 26+ will receive 100% of out-of-state tuition and additional $.  Priority deadline is December 1st but they will accept the ACT/SAT through February 2013.  These scholarships are awarded if the student applies by deadline and meets criteria.

 

Horatio Alger Association Scholarship:  Provides scholarship assistance to students who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. Students must apply August 1 – October 25, 2012 at www.horatioalger.org/scholarships.

 

AES Engineering Essay Contest:  This is a $500 essay contest for those who qualify. Deadline for entry: October 5, 2012

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation:  You must be a current high school senior, have a minimum 3.00 GPA at the end of your junior year and be planning to pursue a degree at an accredited US post-secondary institution.    This is a highly competitive program but the $ rewards are very good.  Go to www.coca-colascholars.org, click Apply On-line, then Four Year, or call 1-800-306-2653.

 

Kids’ Chance Scholarships:  Kids’ Chance scholarships are awarded for technical training or college tuition to students whose parents have died or become permanently disabled while at work.  Applications with required documents must be received by May 1, 2013.  Applicants MUST provide proof of a parent’s death or disability.  Documents required for proof of death or disability are explained and listed in the online application.  For more information regarding contributions and applications contact:  Alabama Law Foundation at 334-269-1515 or 1-800-354-6154.
