  • Freedom is the best peacemaker - Clara Most days, homework/reading time at SIFE is somewhat challenging because the children aren't terribly interested in homework (like many kids) and have trouble focusing on their math and spelling worksheets. We try to maintain a structured learning environment, so the kids don't often have free choice time, since it often turns into screaming-and-running-around time.    But today, most of the children didn't have any homework to do.  So we made a deal: if they could quietly read for 15 minutes, then they could play games for the rest of homework/reading/snack time.    Something amazing happened: after 15 minutes of reading, all of the children settled down into the quietest, most peaceful free choice ...
