DETAILED RULES GOVERNING COPLeagues COMPETITION
The following rules apply:
At the beginning of the TEAM competition, the 2 captains flip a coin to see which team serves first to begin competition.
Once a doubles team takes the court, there is a maximum 5 minute warm up, and then the match begins.
There is a maximum 5 minute break between the 1st and 2nd game. There is no break between the 2nd game and the shoot out..
IFP regulations are the guidelines for all Central Ohio Pickleball matches.
All TEAM scores, once entered on this website, are official.
Scores are kept on this website for one year.
TEAM CAPTAINS
Each TEAM must have a captain. Captains are responsible for
understanding the COPLeagues website so he/she can help TEAM members find information.
understanding the COPLeagues rules to make sure TEAM members play according to rules.
scheduling a mutually agreed upon make-up match with the other captain if the match is rained out, OR finding indoor courts to play on IF both captains of the competing TEAMs agree to pay for indoor courts instead of scheduling a make-up match.
All members of the two competing TEAMs must pay an equal amount towards the indoor court fee.
"HOME" TEAM captains have a few additional responsibilities:
finding FREE pickleball courts to use for matches when the captain's TEAM hosts a match (i.e., the "home" TEAM).
entering all scores for the TEAM competitions played at "home".
communicating with the League Director if any scoring questions arise.
MATCHES
There will be home and away matches. The League Director will determine which TEAMs are home teams for the entire season schedule. This designation will be equally shared among all the TEAMs in the group.
The match format of 3 games:
The first two games go to 21 points win by 1.
If a 3rd game is needed to determine the winner, that game will go to 11 points win by 1.
This means match lengths will be around 2 hours.
TEAM SCORING
Every doubles team that wins their match wins 1 point for their TEAM.
If two competing TEAMs win one doubles match and lose one doubles match, both TEAM scores will be 1. In the case of a TEAM tie, a 5 point "shoot out" occurs between the two doubles pairs from each TEAM that won their match. The first team that wins 5 points wins the tie and receives the 2nd TEAM point.
At the end of the TEAM competition, the winning TEAM should have 2 points. The losing TEAM could have zero points or 1 point in the case of a tie.
GROUP WINNERS
Scores are recorded for all doubles teams and TEAMs on this website.
At the end of the season, the TEAM with the most points wins the group. In case of a tie between TEAMs in a group, differential points will determine the winner.
Differential points = the total points a doubles pair won in all of their games of the season minus the total of points that doubles pair lost in all of their games of the season.
DIVISION WINNERS
There will be playoffs among all group winners to determine the division champion.
All division champion TEAM members receive gold medals.
