Beat in the eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition beat the mixture until is thick and pale, add anise extract.
In an other bowl combine the flour, the baking powder, salt, and the anise seed then add the mixture into the butter mixture to form a sticky dough.
Halve the dough and with floured hands pat each half into 7" by 14” Inch rectangle on a buttered cookie sheet. Brush the rectangles well with egg wash and bake them in the upper third of a preheated 375 degree oven for 20 – 25 min, or until they are golden brown.
Cut the rectangles diagonally into 3/4 inch slices, turn the slices on their sides and bake them into 375 oven for 5 min and then turn the slices and bake for 5 min more.
