How to Paint a Toddler....Beating the Heat, Lileigh Grace Style
How to Paint a Toddler....Beating the Heat, Lileigh Grace Style
©2011 Susan Ogden-All Rights Reserved Images Thruthelookingglass One of my girls' favorite summer pastimes as toddlers and preschoolers was painting.....but, oh the mess! (like playdoh, it was turned into an “outdoor” play thing!) They loved to watch me paint (i was heavily into my woodworking and painting phase) and wanted to “help”, was born the idea of a big bowl of water and a few paintbrushes and a half naked toddler! I did not want to cramp their creative style, having had mine cramped quite often by my obsessively neat and tidy mom! They LOVED it...they painted the front flagstone walk....they painted the steps to the front porch....they painted the deck....they painted each other! Summer fun at it’s funniest! Lileigh Grace happened to be with me on what was the first very warm day of spring this year...and bored of being inside for what was a much tooooooo long and dreary winter, it was time to set this water loving toddler loose with a paintbrush....Her first order of business was to paint her jeans! one thing led to another until finally the small amount of water was just not cutting it....this kid SERIOUSLY LOVES WATER! Out came a swimsuit....the galvanized tub, a watering can....she gathered sticks to “stir” with and rocks to “cook”. There was no getting her out of the water, without some “OH, SNAP!” mean faces and a few high pitched, glass shattering screeches when it was time to go in for lunch and get ready to go home with mama for a nap! Something tells me that my quiet, blissful days of watching the ocean, and feeling the warmth of the sand on my total relaxation, melting like a pat of butter into my beach chair, is not going to be happening this year! i think, just maybe, i have found me a tiny beach bum to wander with.....and i am going to learn a new love of the water, which involves being IN, if i can just get past being slathered in sand like a sugar cookie!!!!!! Enjoy Lileigh’s visual instructions below on how to beat the heat this summer! Happy Saturday!
