Ikan Bakar Rica (Grilled Fish with Chilly)
This is a cooking from the kitchen of my parent's region, North Sulawesi. Sulawesi is one of the main island in Indonesia, the one with the "K" shape, and North Sulawesi is at the very top. The people from this region is called "Orang Menado (Menadonese)". "Rica" is the local term for Chilly. But basicly is a type of cooking where the chilly, herbs & spicies are chopped not very fine and give a particular taste. A very typical taste that people will just know when they taste it, that it is a Rica cooking from Menado. Menadonese cooking is probably one of the food that has the richest blend of herbs and spicies. Perhaps because people grew a lot of them in this region. Their food has a very strong taste. And almost all of them are spicy. This grilled fish was very tasty, but not as good as my mom's cooking ^_^???
One of my favorite foods in Japan is sushi, and Kyoto just so happens to be known for a particular type known as saba-zushi. Saba-zushi is made with pickled mackerel--it is pickled because mackerel spoils easily under normal conditions. You can also see the interesting shape. Saba-zushi is almost "log-shaped," wrapped in a sea weed, and sliced into these big pieces. Absolutely delicious~
