Instantaneous disc
This 16" instantaneous discs has an aluminum base and a recording layer composed of cellulose nitrate. This disc exhibits two classical deteriorating processes: flaking of the cellulose nitrate "recording" layer as well as seeping of the plasticizer (evidenced by the sticky, powdery layer on the surface of the discs. The latter happens when the castor oil plasticizer used in the manufacture of the discs eventually seperates from the cellulose nitrate and is expelled towards the surface of the plastic.
