Naturalization Ceremony

The society greeted our newest citizens during a naturalization ceremony at the Berks County Courthouse and presented each with a small American flag.

Members gathered on Children's Day at the homestead and elected the 2014-2015 officers

Memorial Day Weekend 2014

Members honored the men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms by participating in a ceremony conducted by the Combined Veterans Council in the Veterans Grove area of City Park and marched in the Oley Memorial Day parade.

Flag Retirement Ceremony
June 7, 2014


Members joined with the Berks County Veterans Affairs office to conduct a Flag Retirement ceremony at the Daniel Boone Homestead. We were honored to be joined by PA C.A.R. State President Julia Teti; Regent Wendy Kershner of the Berks County Chapter, DAR; President Barry Kauffman of the Gov. Joseph Hiester Chapter, SAR; State Representative Mark Gillen; State Senator Judy Schwank; and our keynote speaker was Brig. Gen. Wilbur Wolf III, Deputy Commanding General, 28th Infantry Div., PA Army National Guard. Members of the Gov. Joseph Hiester Chapter, SAR color guard assisted during the ceremony and passed out worn-out flags that were retired by the guests in attendance.

Sleepover at the Daniel Boone Homestead
July 18, 2014
Space to run, bunk beds, a camp fire and marshmallows almost as big as your head! Oh, and hot dogs roasted over the fire! Who could ask for more than that?
The society descended on the Daniel Boone Homestead for our annual sleepover with friends from the Berks History Center's 1776 Club.
Field Trip to Star-Spangled Banner Flag House & Ft. McHenry
July 25, 2014

The society visited the site of this years National Project, the Star-Spangled Banner House in Baltimore, MD to learn more about our flag and the events that led to the Battle of Baltimore and the inspiration for Francis Scott Key to write his famous poem "Defence of Fort McHenry"
PA C.A.R. Summer Workshop
August 1 & 2, 2014
 Members made the trip to western PA to attend the annual Summer Workshop and to visit the site of our PA State Project, the Neville House, home of General John Neville, in Pittsburgh.

 Members were invited to the home of Sr. Society President Vicky Heffner for a fun picnic and met one of our newest members and her mom!
September Meeting
September 6, 2014
 The society met at the Berks History Center and visited the Henry Janssen Library to learn more about archives and the preservation of historic documents and artifacts.

 As is our tradition, our newest citizens were greeting and congratulated during the semi-annual naturalization ceremony at the Berks County Courthouse and presented with a small American Flag.
