Outreach Project Opportunities
What can we do to improve the quality of life of our students?

Can learn while having fun!!

Students need to understand that mathematics was not designed to torture them.  Mathematics is necessary to be successful in life.  When given the opportunity to see how math is applied to “real world situations”, they are able to retain more of the strategies.

1.Longwood Gardens

1001 Longwood Road, Kennett Square, PA 19348

Gives students the opportunity to see how geometry is used to determine the size of the area needed to plant X number of Y plants.

2.          Amusement Parks

Hershey Park

Offer a Math Day at the theme parks. Activities are provided by Hershey Park which are downloadable for reproduction for your students.  They also cater to other subjects as well.

3.          Outreach Organizations

Reach out to established organizations who are trying to make a difference in the minds of the youth.  There is no need to re-invent the wheel.  We should assist the learning process whenever the opportunity presents itselfl  A few which come to mind are

a.       http://www.uncf.org/philadelphia/

b.      http://www.cbmphilly.org/ (Concerned Black Men)

c.       http://www.palde.org/ (Police Athletic League)

d.      http://www.nanotech.upenn.edu/nano_day.html

e.      Different sororities and fraternities

f.        Local alumni and alumna chapters

g.       Big Brothers  or Big sisters

h.      Local places of worship

i.         United Way

j.        Tutoring programs:  Students confidence levels are increased when they have mastered topics well enough to teach others.

When they understand math is everywhere, they do not need to like the subject.  They must respect it enough to understand how it is used so they will not be taken advantage of.  Not that I promote this profession, but even a drug dealer has not know how to work with money.
