After teaching scripture to various groups for 10 years, I have
learned a very sad lesson; most Christians have not learned how to
practically live out the messages they hear at church. To often a
person hears the message of grace and then goes out to the world and
lets all manner of behavior happen, while just accepting that they will
be forgiven. On the flip side, we have all come into contact with the
christian that hears a message of "fire and brimstone" then takes it
upon them self to preach down to every sinner they meet. The truth is,
both of these examples of a christian life are poor attempts to live as
Christ instructed us.
Not to cast aspersions on any single teacher, the truth is many well taught lessons are those that inflame the spirit to seek righteousness or to explore the depths of grace, but a person's experience with God should be much more then this. Scripture tells us to "make disciples" not sit and yell at a bunch of people and hope they can cope with what we have said. Discipleship is about teaching people not just the facts and figures, but helping them to understand and to grow in that understanding. When a person disciples for a job, it is a long journey that doesn't end until you not just learn your job but can show you have skills and understanding that rival your teacher.
The Connect study is a study that seeks the principals of discipleship first. I am not interested in cramming information down the throats of students in a hope that they can regurgitate the best litany or live the strictest lives possible. The study's are designed to promote understanding first. To give the heart of the scripture to each participant and help them understand it and be a part of their character.
To achieve the full impact the Connect study seeks, the study takes place with a live audience that is encouraged to speak their minds. Only through sincerity can we bridge the gap between our daily lives and our hearts to the truth found in scripture and the heart of God. This is the true experience I wish to share with the world. There is a richness in learning when a person can hear honest conversation and true life stories and be able to relate to the subjects being discussed. Often the failure of the
My hope is that with the help from your support through this website I can purchase the equipment necessary to produce these series in a professional manner. I have no doubt, christian and non-christian alike, we have all seen the old sermon videos with the terrible floating graphics and standard blue backgrounds for every scene. I want to be able to create a lesson that makes every viewer feel like they are a part of the bible study. In order to do this, I need a studio space, proper furnishings, proper equipment, and post-production editing equipment. When you witness the final product, I do not want you to be distracted by any substandard filming technique or poor sound quality. I want you to be able to easily slip into the study and spend your time focusing on the Word.
One of the unique aspects of this project is sincerity of participation we are looking to capture on film. I want to make it clear, I will have each lesson portion prepared to teach, but the conversation and questions brought forth by the members of the bible study will be unscripted. My goal is to film the true concerns of everyday life that we all
deal with. The conversation, the questions will all be sincere thoughts and concerns that hopefully everyone watching or listening will be able to relate to.
When I say everyone, my goal is to have an on camera group that represents the entire viewing audience. I am looking to include people of different age groups, financial and social backgrounds, believers and non-believers, as well as members that are married and single. I want this production to be relevant to everyone's walk in life.
You maybe asking yourself at this point, why am I doing this? The simplest answer I can give you is that i truly feel called to teach this lesson. These specific lessons have been placed on my heart for many years and I believe that all people can benefit from it. So I wish to provide this in a format that can reach all people. Over the past 10 years, I have been asked many times by Christians that find themselves in difficult situations "what is the importance of being a part of a small group?" I truly feel that in this particular type of teaching, people are able to grow closer to God.
Please take the time to consider praying for this project and or donating to it. I truly appreciate you taking the time to read my goals.
