St Alphage in a ball
St Alphage in a ball
I decided to take a different walk to work last week past St Alphage House and the surrounding 'South Barbican' development - about 10 years ago I used this route every day... some difference today as it's teetering on the verge of being demolished. The entire area is deserted an St Alphage House is readying itself for demolition - all looks quiet outside but inside aspestos-removal specialists are beavering away.. it's like the tower's being eaten from the inside. The walkways - more pictures of this later - have flower beds edged with concrete. Inset into the concrete are stainless steel balls, one of which is pictured here with yours truly reflected, and St Alphage house behind... ... St Alphage House was one of, as I recall, five office blocks which lined London Wall - a dual-carriage way which runs from Aldersgate towards Liverpool Street as was part of an attempted inner ring road which was never completed. The towers were at 45 degrees to the road and only two remain - the refurbished City Tower and St Alphage House which retains the original aluminium cladding. St Alphage House and the area are being demolished to make way for a new headquarters for JP Morgan... clearly the demolition is underway, but my feeling is this will be slowed up or we'll end up with a flattened sight for some time until the economic climate improves.
Hard Work | Yard Work
Hard Work | Yard Work
I worked all day in the yard in blistering Georgia heat & humidity. I moved tons of stones & concrete edging, cleaned the leaves out of the flower bed, put down new mulch, fixed the gate so Sashi can't escape, installed quick releases on the hose/attachments, and created a sprinkler system. I also planted 4 lantanas, 2 annuals, a rose bush, and a different perennial whose name I can't remember right now. I'm ready to go back to work tomorrow and get some rest...
