As usual, I'm pleased to announce thatAnother new series of Duel eng matches,Where this time played: Lc0 vs Stockfish
1st of all,SCCT's hardware is updated to Dual EPYC 7B12 So, I plan to run my next tournaments mainly with2x EPYC 7B12 machine and note that, I realized toDisable SMT (Hyper-Threading) from Bios, the reason: My favorite test conditions are as MP + Ponder ON And frankly e.g according to my latest beta testings:The Top engines are doing better when SMT is disabledTo be more clear...sometimes e.g higher NPS does notMean better...at least under these test conditions..And not only in Game-play,plus in Analyzing mode too!
Well, let me say please some words about this Duel,Sure, we need more games... but anyhow it's clear that Stockfish and LCZero are very close in strenght...butI have to admit that SF seems to be slightly stronger..Sure I am referring in Blitz...but in Rapid, Slow etc.The situation may be different...who knows ?)
On other hand,Stockfish is used to play via 32 Cores, where Lc0 playedVia 2 Cores on RTX 3060, btw e.g via V-ray bench 1.0.8:Speed ratio (CPU vs GPU) seems to be close each other..Sure I mean the speed of 32 Core is close to RTX 3600 But frankly (for more fair conditions), I still have some Doubts regarding the CPU speed e.g favors for SF or not...However, just in case...Lco will be more equal in strength,If SF's number of cores will be less...e.g SF via 16 CoresOr via 8 cores.. and to be sure... we need serious tests!But this is also true that my target is not to make: SF vs Lc0 to be equal in Elo points (in case on same PC)In other words, I just wish both engines to be played underMore fair conditions...as you may know:Hardware speed advantages play really very important role!
