Day-to-day programme

 

Sunday May 4th

 

In the course of the afternoon, the guests will be welcomed by Mr. De Smet and some of our Public Relations students at the railway station of Sint-Niklaas. Afterwards they will be brought to the OLVP school and meet some pupils of 5ST (ST= Secretariaat talen or Secretarial Studies) and their host families.

 

The students of 5ST will label the snacks that the guests have brought with them and store them in the refrigerator.

 

After that, the guests, hosts and students will get the opportunity to get to know one another while having a drink.

 

Monday May 5th

 

Morning

8:25  On arrival, we get together in the Studiezaal (assembly room in the OLVP school) where you will be briefed about the programme of the day.

 

This will be followed by unfreezing activities organised by our students, which will allow us to get to know one another better.

 

10.30: A short break. A snack and some drinks will be provided.

After the break, the unfreezing activities will continue for the students, while the teachers get together to have a meeting on the project.

 

Noon

Lunch at school

 

Afternoon

Local teacher Els Bekx, assisted by the pupils of 5ST, will give you an initial Dutch-for-beginners course.

 

14:45 -15:15  A well-deserved break

 

15:15 -16:30  Photo search in the city in mixed groups

 

Evening

Themed evening on Europe organised by the pupils of 5 ST for the school headmaster, the teachers, the pupils of the host families. There will be snacks typical of all the participating countries, and all the countries involved will be presented by the guests.

 

All the guest students are supposed to give a short presentation about their region/school/the food they brought or another subject of their choice……

 

 

Tuesday May 6th

 

Morning

8.00: We get together at the trainstation of Sint-Niklaas

We travel to the Bruges by train for a visit to one of our country’s most beautiful historical cities. Throughout the day, you will be skilfully guided by our students of the Tourism department.

Thanks to its canals, Bruges is sometimes referred to as the Venice of the North. Bruges boasts an enormous medieval patrimony, and it is sometimes hard to imagine that is home to over 100.000 people, as it has the style of an open-air museum.

Dinner and evening with your host family.

 

Wednesday May 7th

 

Morning

8:25 On arrival, we get together in the Studiezaal (assembly room in the OLVP school) where you will be briefed about the programme of the day.  

 

Afterwards, the guest students will be given the opportunity to attend lessons in our school. If they wish, they can also choose to teach/present something to our students.

 

10:00 Guest speaker, Mr. Jurgen Thysmans of the company Nokia will tell us something about Mobile blogging

 

In the meantime/afterwards, the pupils of 5 ST will get to work to write an article on the events for Het Handelsblaadje, the school paper. They will also prepare tomorrow’s visit to Antwerp and the words of thanks for the visit to Town Hall later that day.

The teachers will continue their debate on the project

Afternoon

14:00-15:30  We all get together in the school’s computer classes to work on the project. During this activity, the students of 5 ST will make a photo report on the project.

 

15:00 -17:00: Free time

 

Evening

17:00  reception at the Town Hall

 

18u30-22u30: garden party at Christine Stuer’s (one of our teachers) house.

Thursday May 8th

 

Morning

9.30: On arrival, we get together in the Studiezaal (assembly room in the OLVP school) where you will be briefed about the programme of the day.

 

10-12u Guest speaker Mr. Jarl Vandenbroeck, of the company Proximus (one of Belgium’s leading telecom operators) will join us to tell us something about new tendencies in the sector of mobile communication

 

Noon

Lunch at school served by our school’s students.

 

Afternoon

13.00: We walk in group to the railwaystation to take the train for a visit to the city Antwerp. There, we will get a guided tour of the city’s most renowned brewery, De Coninck. It brews a wide variety of beers, of which Bolleke (literally: small dot) is the most famous one. Of course, you will also get the opportunity to have a taste of it.

 

Afterwards, we will end our day with a stroll through the city centre. Antwerp, which lies on the banks of the River Scheldt is one of our country’s few metropolitan areas. First, the students of 5ST will give some essential tourist and historical information of the city centre and then you will be free to walk and shop around. We will get together at the central railway station of the city also known as the railway cathedral because of its architectural design. Take your time to have a look but make sure you catch your train to Sint-Niklaas at 17u25 !

Friday May 9th

 

Morning

8.20 !: On arrival, we get together in the Studiezaal (assembly room in the OLVP school) where you will be briefed about the programme of the day

 

8:30 Sports (Football- Dance- Indoor swimming) till 11:30

 

11:30-13:00  lunch

 

13:00 – 15:00

We will all get together in our school’s computer classes to work on the project.

 

The students will evaluate their work and to prepare themselves for the evening’s presentations. The pupils of 5 ST will also finish the article for the school paper.

 

15:00-18:00 Free time

 

18:00-…..

 

Final party on the grounds of Red Star Waasland, Sint-Niklaas’ main football team. The party will consist of two parts:

 

18:00-23:00  formal part, with a dinner and speeches by the participating teachers and the school’s headmaster, and presentations on what has been achieved during the week.

22:00-… farewell party
