2015 - 2016 Kinderchor Season

posted Aug 4, 2015, 7:09 PM by Columbus Kinderchor   [ updated Aug 4, 2015, 7:35 PM ]

Currently under the direction of Toni Ryan, the children's repertoire is tailored to meet the needs of growing voices and a variety of skill levels. The very youngest learn German nursery rhymes that teach the concepts of opposites, numbers, times and seasons, and parts of the body. The older children learn to sing in rounds and two and three part harmony. At all levels, there is a heavy component of building German vocabulary, good musical practices, and performance art.

Performances are scheduled several times per year throughout central Ohio. Our uniforms are German Tracht, Dirndls, and Landhaus (or German Country) dresses and Lederhosen (or German pants).  We have a number of costumes and make sure all our singers have access to what they need.

Opportunities: Travel & Scholarships Our chorus members have been the recipients of Summer Art Camp Scholarships. We travel to several Central Ohio Oktoberfest and German Culture celebrations to perform and promote German Heritage. We are planning a group trip to Germany for the 50th anniversary of the Columbus Kinderchor in 2019.

It is time once again to resume our rehearsals to prepare for our Oktoberfest season of performances.
Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings from 6pm – 7pm. At our German Heritage Haus in German Village.

We offer three 10 week sessions for children and youth ages 3 -18. Each session consists of 10 rehearsals and at least 2 performances.

Session 1 – Oktoberfest Music (August 4th - October 4th)
Session 2 – Christmas Music (October 13th - December 15th)
Session 3 – Spring Music (February 2nd 2016 - April 26th 2016)

Dues are $50 per 10 week session, or $100 for all three sessions. Sibling discount of 25% for families. Limited scholarships for dues are available.

Interested in joining?   E-mail us at columbuskinderchor1969@gmail.com

We would like to invite you to sit in on any rehearsal or join us at one of our performances. Previous German language skills are not necessary, we will teach your child in the easiest form…song.

United German Singing Society

The day of German Unification saw a grand celebration of music and heritage as the United German Singing Society and Alphorn Grüezie filled the walls of Mees Hall on Capital University with music and celebration.  Ten Alphorn opened the well attended event. Cabot Rea of 10TV in Columbus, Ohio performed as Master of Ceremonies.

The audience was entertained with vocal music performed by Central Ohio Germanic choirs, dancers from the Columbus Germania and the Columbus Kinderchor & Jugendchor. The children performed selections from The Sound of Music. However, the audience laughed until the tears flowed as the children performed a yodel, and proceeded to "teach" the audience members how to yodel.

Look for a repeat performance in October of 2015.

Cleveland Oktoberfest 2014

Each year, our children travel to Cleveland to perform in their Oktoberfest. Find us down the gangway in front of the Choir Gazebo as we sing our songs.  This year, we introduced, "Oh, Teach Me How to Yodel" yodeled by Aiden Buckley.
