Kiwanis One Day, April 15, 2013
Kiwanis One Day is an international day of service each year during which Kiwanis clubs throughout the world fix up and spruce up a selected location in their city which benefits children and their communities. This year a number of volunteers from the five Columbia Kiwanis clubs, members of the Columbia Aktion Club for adults with disabilities, members of local Boy Scout troops, plus a number of other volunteers cleared the 20-acre Kiwanis Park on College Park Drive of trash, repainted picnic tables, removed hundreds of invasive Asian Honeysuckle plants, and repaired walking trails.
Three years ago, in 2010, Kiwanis Park was the recipient of similar service. In 2009, the beneficiary was Lee Elementary School on Locust Street. In other years, the focus of service was the Central Missouri Food Bank and the local Boys and Girls club.

GOLDEN K SPONSORED CLUBS
We sponsor four community service clubs in different public schools, and
co-sponsor a Kiwanis club of persons with disabilities. We describe
these clubs as our Sponsored Programs. Sponsorship involves assisting
the clubs with meetings, projects, transportation, and providing
membership pins, banners, gavels, and other meeting items. The clubs
provide members a way to volunteer their services to the community, and
raise funds for donations to community needs.
Each club elects officers, names committees, holds regular meetings,
performs projects, and generally operates as any regular Kiwanis club.
Here is a list of the Columbia schools with a Golden K sponsored service club:
* Smithton Middle School Builders Club
* Oakland Junior High School Builders Club
* Derby Ridge Elementary K-Kids Club
* Tolton High School Key Club
* Battle High School Key Club
Our club for persons with disabilities is co-sponsored with two other
Columbia Kiwanis clubs, the Columbia club, and the Boonslick club. We
call this club the . . .
* Aktion Club
