We are excited to announce the first Colorado SAVES Student Sustainability Summit! Colorado SAVES (Students as Voices for Environmental Sustainability) aims to bring high school students from across the state together to educate, share, and inspire environmental stewardship. The summit will take place on September 28-29, 2012 at Ponderosa High School in Parker, Colorado.
The Colorado SAVES Summit is the creation of students in the PeaceJam Club at Ponderosa High School. The students recognized a need for a state-wide conference that would allow youth the opportunity to come together to strategize, share ideas, and create action plans addressing sustainability. Students across Colorado are engaging in nationally-leading environmental projects, and we hope that other students will benefit from direct student-to-student collaboration. The summit will feature a student-created and student-driven agenda including interactive workshops, hands-on learning opportunities, and skills learning sessions. We aim to attract over 500 participants representing a wide range of districts in Colorado. Additionally, we are working to provide students and their adult sponsors the opportunity to spend Friday night at Ponderosa High School - providing an economical housing option for those traveling from more distant areas of the state.
Registration is now open! Click on the Registration page on the left side of the page. The event will be FREE for all participants. Students and adults must register in advance (no walk-up registration will be allowed).
Check-in will begin at 4pm on Friday, September 28, 2012, at Ponderosa. The summit will end at 5pm on Saturday, September 29, 2012. Students must check-in with their adult sponsor and be accompanied by that sponsor for the entire event.
Dinner will be provided on Friday night. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided on Saturday.
High school age students will be permitted to spend the night at Ponderosa High School with their adult sponsor. Each student group and sponsor will be provided a classroom to sleep in. Students and adults are responsible for bringing their own sleeping bags, mattress pads, pillows, and any other necessary items. All-night security will be present at the school; however, each adult sponsor will be exclusively responsible for monitoring their own students during the overnight. All registration forms and waivers must be signed in advance by participant's parents in order to be permitted to stay overnight. Standard school bathrooms will be available, as well as limited showers in the locker room facilities.
Please note: Sleeping arrangements will be separated by gender.
