Dan and Dawn Latta Kirby

CLAS honors teacher, writer, and CLAS leader Dan Kirby, who teaches with passion and innovation, by offering a $200 grant in his name to a K-12 classroom teacher. Grant money is to be used to complete a project with an innovative approach to teaching writing.

CLAS celebrates this award at its Annual Regional Conference and expects the award winner(s) to showcase his/her/their project in a session at that conference.

To apply for the grant please provide us with:

  • Your name and the name of your school and district
  • The grade level of the students involved in your project
  • Your home address, phone number, and email
  • The title of your project and a brief summary (50-100 words, including how this project reaches beyond your normal curriculum and practices and helps you better achieve the Colorado State Standards)
  • Instructional goals (what writing goals will be met)
  • Instructional activities (what writing activities will be included)
  • Budget: books, supplies/materials (please be specific about how you will use the $200; cost approximations for specific materials are acceptable)

Grant awardees will be announced in February 2013, so you’ll be able to use it in the current school year.
