Judith Gilbert Fellowship for CLAS Leaders

Deadline: November 30, 2017

Nomination form:  [GilbertApplication.pdf]

Judy Gilbert

How can CLAS bring new leaders into the organization?

That is the question addressed by the Judith Gilbert Fellowship for CLAS Leaders, which honors the late Judith Decker Gilbert (photo, right), who was a CLAS leader, Colorado Department of Education Consultant, Director of the Colorado Writing Project, and Curriculum Director at Eagle Rock School and Professional Development Center. In order to perpetuate the spirit of leadership and professionalism embodied by Judy, we encourage anyone who has held a leadership position in CLAS to mentor a promising newcomer.

Nominations for the Judith Gilbert Fellowship may be made by a current or previous leader in CLAS. "Leaders" are CLAS members who have held office or served on committees (including conference and contest committees). Mentors and nominees who have applied in previous years but who did not receive the fellowship may reapply.

As the person nominating, you must be willing to serve as a mentor for your nominee. Nominees must be current CLAS members, must have a minimum of two years teaching experience and be full-time teachers, and must have demonstrated leadership abilities.

The Colorado Writing Project provides funding for both recipients of the Fellowship (a mentor and an mentee) to receive CLAS memberships for one year as well as paid registrations to two CLAS-sponsored events, a Writing Conference, Colorado Teen Literature Conference, or the CLAS Regional Conference.  Recipients of the award will be introduced at the annual CLAS Regional Conference.

The nomination form at the top of this page further describes qualification criteria and information about the required commitment of both the mentor and the intern.
