The Colorado Language Arts Society is a state affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of English, a professional association of educators in English studies, Literacy, and Language Arts.

CLAS is a sponsor of the Blue Spruce Book Award and the Colorado Teen Literature Conference.

In spring 2018, CLAS, the Colorado Writing Project, and the NCTE Student Affiliate at Metropolitan State University of Denver held a flash fiction writing contest for students in grades 6-12. The winners have been announced at http://www.nctemsudenver.club/flash-fiction-contest/ .

CLAS recently relaunched our award-winning journal, Statement. Please read the Spring 2019 issue and visit the Publications page for more information on how to publish with us. The Fall 2019 call for entries about teaching oral communication closed on July 31, 2019.

Our next Fall Regional Conference will be October 5, 2019 with keynotes by Cornelius Minor, Helen Thorpe, and Tanaya Winder at the Tivoli Student Union in Denver. The conference is co-sponsored by the NCTE Student Affiliate at Metropolitan State University of Denver.
