The Colorado Language Arts Society is a state affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of English, a professional association of educators in English studies, Literacy, and Language Arts.

CLAS is a sponsor of the Blue Spruce Book Award and the Colorado Teen Literature Conference.

In spring 2018, CLAS, the Colorado Writing Project, and the NCTE Student Affiliate at Metropolitan State University of Denver held a flash fiction writing contest for students in grades 6-12. The winners have been announced at http://www.nctemsudenver.club/flash-fiction-contest/ .

CLAS is currently in search of submissions for a Fall 2018 revival of our award-winning journal, Statement. Please visit the Publications page for more information on how to publish with us.

Our next Regional Fall Conference is October 6, 2018, with keynotes by teacher and author Penny Kittle, poet Camille Dungy, and 2015 National Teacher of the Year Shanna Peeples at the Tivoli Student Union in Denver. The conference is co-sponsored by the NCTE Student Affiliate at Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Our session proposal acceptance window has closed; presenters will be notified shortly.

Conference registration is $68 for pre-service and first-year teachers, and $100 for all other attendees. The cost includes a catered brown-bag lunch and one year's membership in Colorado Language Arts Society.
