Mission Statement: To Support, Promote and Enhance Meaningful Involvement and Participation of Parents in Order to Improve the Education and Well-Being of Children in the Collins-Maxwell School District.
Partners in Education (PIE) was started in 2003 as a group of interested parents, teachers and community members who wanted to be more involved in the education of the elementary students.
Meetings are held at the Collins lunchroom in September, November, January, and April. Our school Carnival is held every February at the Maxwell School.
RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) is a program that is sponsored by PIE. We have book distributions three times a year for all students of the elementary. Each one has a theme and the students and staff all participate, whether that is dressing up, school assembly presentations, or just reading books in the classroom. PIE members can help in various ways by planning the theme, ordering books, decorating the stage or working at the distribution. Over 5,000 books have been purchased and given to students by PIE.
The School Carnival is a fun time for all ages. There are games and inflatables in both gyms and concessions. We also have a raffle, which has some awesome prizes. In the past years, we have had gift certificates to various businesses, Game Boys and iPods. PIE members are needed to help at various locations for the carnival, as well as set up and tear down.
What do we do with all the proceeds?
We purchase items for the elementary, which aren't in the school’s budget. To date, PIE has purchased items such as playground balls, and a digital camera, laser printer and books for the media center, and flex reading program. Several items for the classrooms such as books, TV’s, DVD players, and bookcases have been purchased as well. PIE expanded the concrete area of the playground, additional playground equipment, and Orff instruments for our music department. We also provide the Character Counts daily assignment planners and the BEE binders for every student.
