January 30, 2016.  The Multicultural Outreach Roundtable of Plano celebrated its annual Citizenship Workshop at the Sockwell Center in Plano.  The Collin County Adult Literacy Council was present to distribute our Directory of Adult Literacy Providers and answer questions about ESL, Citizenship and GED classes.

Rosa María Crocker, Family Education and Guidance Services of Plano ISD; and Mr. Felipe Arellano of the Adult Education Program of McKinney ISD.

Plano, Texas. Friday, June 12, 2015. Transamerica granted  $12,500 to Collin County Adult Literacy Council  for FY 2015-2016. This is the fourth year that Transamerica funds CCALC.  New ESL and Basic Literacy programs will be made available through this grant as well as more volunteer tutor training, mini-grants and the Family Reading Day activity. On September 27, 2014 the Collin County Adult Literacy Council distributed the FY 2014-15 minigrants. The organizations that received grants were:  McKinney Public Library, Richardson Public Library, Family Education and Guidance Services/Plano ISD and First United Methodist Church of Plano.  These funds serve to provide teaching materials, equipment and software for our service providers.

 Mrs. Yolanda Medina, President CCALC, participated of the Serve McKinney Open House on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Collin Higher Education Center in McKinney.  Representatives from city and county boards and commissions, plus area non profit organizations were available to recruit volunteers and board participation.  The activity was sponsored by McKinney Community Development Corporation and hosted by Leadership McKinney Alumni Network.

CCALC President, Yolanda Medina and Vice President, Rosa Maria Crocker attended the Literacy Texas Conference at San Marcos, August 12 and 13, 2013.  Worshops were provided on teaching techniques in reading, writing, math; advocacy for literacy providers and information about the new GED test.

Plano, Texas. TransAmerica granted $12,500 to CCALC on April 30, 2013. This is the second year CCALC has received a grant from TransAmerica. CCALC celebrated its first Family Reading Day on March 23, 2013 sponsored by TransAmerica. Sixty families took part of the events of the day which included: a presentation from the Nursing Program at Collin College, an interactive presentation by Will Richey and Alejandro Garcia of Journey Ink about the power of words and reading, storytime provided by the Plano Library System, and the distribution of book cases and books for PK-6 children. Minigrants were also made available to our service providers during 2012.
