Blake Dean to return to LSU for senior season

Associated Press - July 10, 2009 7:34 PM ET

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Outfielder/designated hitter Blake Dean will return to LSU for his senior season.

Coach Paul Mainieri announced Friday that Dean chose to complete his collegiate career instead of signing a professional contract with the Minnesota Twins, who selected him in the 10th round of the 2009 draft.

Dean, a first team all-Southeastern Conference player who helped lead the Tigers to the College World Series title, will undergo surgery on his left shoulder next week. Mainieri says the surgery, set for Wednesday, will correct some instability in the shoulder and allow Dean to particpate in the Tigers' fall practice in late October.

Dean hit .328 this past season with 18 doubles, 17 homers, 67 runs and a team-best 71 RBIs.
