Coach bios

This summer we have many coaches returning from previous camp years. Our coaches come from a wide variety of volleyball backgrounds and have coached and played at the high school, club, and college level. Most importantly, we all love the game of volleyball and hope to share that with you this summer!

Amanda Estes, Camp Director
Camp Director Amanda Estes has plenty of experience playing and coaching volleyball. She was a starting setter at Dominican University for four years, where she received All Conference honors. Following her collegiate career, she served as an assistant coach for Dominican. She coached at the high school varsity level at Marin Academy, Branson, and Marin Catholic  for a total of eleven years. In addition to high school volleyball, Amanda has coached a variety of teams for Marin Juniors for ten seasons. She has served as the camp director and founder of the Branson, Marin Catholic, and Marin Academy volleyball camps for ten plus years. When not in the gym, Amanda is in her eleventh year as teacher in the Larkspur-Corte Madera School District.  Amanda loves the game of volleyball and can't wait to meet the new group of campers this summer.

 
Alyssa Dunn
Alyssa has played volleyball at the club, high school, and collegiate club levels. She played for Marin Juniors for 5 years. She attended Redwood High School, where she was the starting libero her senior year. She is currently attending UC Davis and is playing for their club volleyball team. Alyssa coached for Volleystart for 4 years, as well as for the Marin Juniors Two Program as a coach for an 8th grade team. Alyssa has been coaching at Marin Academy Volleyball Camp for several years and looks forward to Summer 2013!
Lauren Halilej (Week 1)
Lauren has played volleyball since she was in the 5th grade. She played club volleyball for Marin Juniors, Absolute, and Golden Bears, as well as Junior Varsity at Redwood High School. During her sophomore year, she tore her ACL at a club volleyball practice, but returned to volleyball in college on various Intramural teams. Lauren has been coaching for over 5 years now - in high school she was an assistant coach for a CYO volleyball team, and by her senior year, she was the head coach. She is currently a sophomore at the University of Michigan. This is Lauren's third summer coaching for the Marin Academy Volleyball Camp, and she is so excited to be back! 
Brian Meunier
Brian represents the sport of men's volleyball at Marin Academy Volleyball Camp! He played high school volleyball for the Redwood High School varsity team for all 4 years. He attends the University of Washington, where he is currently a sophomore and enjoys playing intramural volleyball. Brian has been coaching at Marin Academy Volleyball Camp for several summers. His favorite things about camp include dressing up for crazy spirit days, cranking up the music for fun warm-up activities, and promoting team spirit.
Katie Meunier
Katie has been playing volleyball since she was in the 5th grade. She started out with St. Patrick's CYO and has played ever since. She attended Redwood High School where she played defensive specialist for 4 years, and also played club volleyball for Marin Juniors, Empire, and Absolute for a total of 7 seasons. She continued to play on a collegiate club volleyball team while attending the University of Notre Dame until she graduated in 2011. Katie has been coaching at Marin Academy Volleyball Camp since 2008, where she has often been spotted starting dance parties in a crazy gorilla costume.
Savannah Sanford
Savannah is a soon-to-be graduate of Sir Francis Drake High School. She has played volleyball for Drake for the past 4 years. She has also played club volleyball for Marin Juniors for 7 years. Savannah's coaching experience includes being a camp coach at Marin Academy Volleyball Camp since 2010, and a coach for Marin Juniors since 2011. She can't wait to return for another fun year of camp!
Rhiannon Star
Rhiannon is currently a junior at Drake High School. She began to play volleyball in 5th grade, and played CYO volleyball for St. Anselms for 4 years. She has also played for Marin Juniors for 5 seasons and has played at Drake for 3 years, two of which were on the varsity team. She has primarily played as an outside hitter, but also has experience playing right side and back row. In addition to coaching for Marin Academy Volleyball Camp for 2 years, Rhiannon has been coaching for Marin Juniors Too and VolleyStart for 2 years. She can't wait to coach another two weeks at Marin Academy camp this summer and is looking forward to all of the crazy and fun spirit days.
Elizabeth Stoner
Elizabeth has been playing volleyball since 5th grade at St. Anselms. She played for Sir Francis Drake High School for 4 years, playing both opposite and middle hitter. She played 4 years at Marin Juniors Volleyball Club. Elizabeth has been coaching for 12 years at both the middle school and high school level. She has coached at Marin Academy and Sir Francis Drake High School and is currently the Volleyball Program Director at San Domenico School, coaching middle school CYO teams as well as the high school varsity team. Elizabeth is a recent UC Berkeley graduate and hoping to begin working as a high school English teacher. Elizabeth is excited about her second year at Marin Academy Volleyball Camp where she loves meeting players from different schools and doing really elaborate war paint.
Hannah Stoner

Hannah began playing CYO volleyball in 5th grade at St. Anselm and since then has enjoyed playing and coaching as much as she can. Hannah attended Drake High School and played as the varsity setter starting her freshman year until her senior year. She has played club volleyball for both Marin Juniors and Absolute for a total of 6 seasons. Currently Hannah attends Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo and can often be found playing intramural volleyball in the rec center or beach volleyball on the sand courts. Over the years, she has enjoyed coaching for CYO volleyball and the San Domenico Volleyball Camp. She has now been coaching at the MA Volleyball Camp for 3 years, and would like to formally challenge any future camper who believes they can sing more Justin Beiber songs than her.  
Melanie Stoner


 
Jacqueline Woodall
Jacqueline has been playing volleyball since she was 8 years old. She grew up in a volleyball family and still plays volleyball to this day. She played 4 years at Marin Catholic High School and continued playing for another 4 years at Dominican University in San Rafael. She ran Dominican Sport camps for 5 years during her time at Dominican. She played for Marin Juniors for club for 9 years and coached the 16.2s team at Marin Juniors for 2 years. You will find her in the fall on Sundays reffing CYO volleyball and coaching at San Domenico High School in San Anselmo. She has recently started a new volleyball adventure this past fall running Novato Youth Volleyball Association. Pearl Chignell
Pearl will be a sophomore at St. Ignatius College Prepartory in the fall of 2013. She has played volleyball since the 5th grade for CYO while attending San Domenico School. She has played for the Marin Juniors and Absolute Volleyball clubs. Pearl has a powerful serve and is skillful at setting and playing as an outside hitter. Last summer, she was an assistant to the coaches for the Marin Academy Volleyball camp and looks forward to working again this summer.

Elly Lundberg
(First Session Only)

    Elly has been playing volleyball since 5th grade on a CYO St.Patricks team.  She started playing club on the Marin Juniors 13-1s team in 7th grade.  The past 3 years she has been playing at Absolute Volleyball Club. Elly is currently on the 16-1s team at Absolute and they are attending Junior Nationals this summer.  Elly also coaches many clinics and summer camps at absolute and St.Pats.  She is going to be reffing the CYO volleyball games this fall. Elly has played as well as coach many other sports. She is also a staring middle blocker on her Redwood High School varsity volleyball team.  She is going to be a junior this spring.  This will be Elly's first time coaching at a College of Marin camp, but she loves working with younger kids and is energetic to coach and meet everyone!



Brian Meunier
(First Session Only)

Brian represents the sport of men's volleyball at College of Marin Volleyball Camp! He played high school volleyball for the Redwood High School varsity team for all four years. He just completed his junior year at the University of Washington and enjoys playing intramural volleyball. Brian has been coaching at Marin Academy Volleyball Camp and now College of Marin for the past several summers. His favorite things about camp include dressing up for crazy spirit days, cranking up the music for fun warm-up activities, and promoting team spirit.


Marguerite Spaethling 
(First Session Only)

    Marguerite has been playing volleyball since 5th grade on a CYO team at St. Patrick’s. She has played club volleyball at Absolute for four seasons and is currently on the 16-1 team that is going to Junior Nationals this summer.  She has also been a starting as a Middle Blocker on Redwood High Schools varsity team for the past two years. She is going to be a junior this fall. Marguerite has coached at Absolute and St. Patrick clinics. She has also been a CYO referee for a year and has coached other sports camps. This will be Marguerite's first year coaching at the College of Marin camp, but she can’t wait to coach and get to work and meet new players!

Rachael Thorson
(Second Session Only)
    Rachael started playing volleyball when she was ten years old.  She was the starting libero for Redwood High School's Varsity team her Junior and Senior Year.  She played for Absolute Volleyball Club for eight years, and CYO for four years.
She coached CYO for four years throughout High School.  She is off to Kenyon College in the Fall to play libero on their volleyball team.
