In the mid-22nd century, shuttlepods were able to seat a pilot and six passengers, although conditions aboard the vehicles were cramped. Each shuttlepod had an entrance on the roof, one at either side and a large entrance at the back. Seating arrangements consisted of a swiveling chair for the pilot, two similar chairs behind the pilot, and at the rear of the craft, two upholstered benches which doubled as bunks when necessary, and had lift-up seats for access to storage compartments.

Shuttlepods were capable of impulse only. Their com array allowed subspace communications over large distances. They had the capacity to distinguish between Vulcan and Human bio-signs even in a snowstorm. However, atmospheric conditions could have a detrimental effect on a shuttlepod's communications and sensor capabilities. At times, adverse weather conditions could also prevent a shuttlepod from landing.

Each shuttlepod had a single plasma injector, which, if damaged, could cause plasma to leak from the craft. A shuttlepod could be piloted with a damaged EPS conduit, although an operational replacement would usually be installed. Universal translators were usually not stored aboard the vehicles and they were not equipped with toilet facilities. Shuttlepods were equipped, though, with a store of rations and a tiny built-in stove to heat them.

Two ships of this class came to the assistance of Enterprise NX-01 in 2152 when, on its return to Earth, it came under assault from a Klingon warship. Together the four Starfleet vessels managed to overwhelm the aliens and drive them off. This class of starship presumably predated the NX class and must therefore have been less advanced with a reduced warp-capability and phase cannons, although these might have been upgraded. The vessels are compact consisting of a single sagittate hull with warp nacelles mounted to the sides on pylons. No class name or vessel designations are yet known for these ships.


The Neptune Class/Intrepid-type was a mid-22nd century Earth Starfleet starship design to which the starship Intrepid belongs. The class was armed with phase cannons and two torpedo launchers. The Starfleet ship class that appeared in the episode "The Expanse" among the three Earth vessels that rescued Enterprise from the Klingon Bird of Prey.

From it's brief sighting, it appeared to have a saucer, a small engineering hull and additional fins on the propulsion nacelles, themselves rotated through 90 degrees. Since this class of starship appeared more advanced and larger than its consorts, it may be presumed that it was the Intrepid, the command vessel of Enterprise's escort.

The Sarajevo-type starship was a class of warp driven vessel utilized by Earth during the mid-22nd century. A vessel of this class was among the fleet that greeted and escorted Enterprise back to Earth following the Xindi incident in 2154. The Sarajevo (the first of the class) was used as a transport back to Earth later that year.

The SS Conestoga was an Earth colony ship built shortly after Zefram Cochrane's warp flight and was designed for the colonization of Terra Nova, a nearby class M planet. It was capable of carrying about 200 colonists, and was equipped for long-term travel. The
Conestoga was commanded by Captain Mitchell.

Launched in 2069, the Conestoga took nine years, traveling just above warp 1, to reach Terra Nova. Once the Conestoga reached
the planet, in 2078, its modules were dismantled to form the colony's initial structures.


In the 22nd century, Cold Station 12 (or CS12) was a top-secret facility located on an asteroid and jointly operated and staffed by Earth and the Denobulans under the auspices of the Interspecies Medical Exchange. The facility was used to store hazardous viruses and pathogens for research purposes, as well as over 1,800 embryos of 20th century Augments from the Earth Eugenics Wars.

Nineteen of the Augment embryos were stolen in the 2130s by facility chief of staff Doctor Arik Soong. Soong intended to create a new race of "supermen" and took the embryos to the Trialas system where he raised them as his children.

Doctor Phlox served a few months on C-12 at some point during his time with the Medical Exchange.

During Soong's tenure aboard C-12, the power relays in the senior medical director's office were faulty, causing the computer terminal lights to flicker every two hours. Soong asked the maintenance crew to fix it several times, but when he returned ten years later, the problem still wasn't repaired.

In 2154, Doctor Jeremy Lucas became the facility's chief of staff. Soong returned to C-12 in May of that year in a Klingon Bird-of-Prey to take the remaining embryos. Soong and his followers escaped with the embryos, despite the intervention of the Enterprise NX-01. In the incident, several staff members were killed and the entire station was flooded with pathogens except for the command center. Doctor Lucas estimated it would take a year to decontaminate the station.



The D'Kyr type was a type of Vulcan starship operated by the High Command during the mid-22nd century. Some of these vessels were given the designation of combat cruiser in the 2150s. The outboard plan of the Vulcan combat cruiser's design consisted of a flattened, conical shaped hull that flared out and around the annular-warp nacelles and coming back together at the aft section of the ship, where the impulse engines were placed.

Ship's of this class were armed with both photonic and particle weapons, as well as shield technology. Particle beam emplacements include a forward emitter, two ventral emitters, and two aft emitters. In combat, these vessels were superior in firepower to Starfleet's NX class and nearly comparable in firepower to the Andorian battle cruiser. This class was interior to a force of three Tholian starships.

This class was capable of traveling a hundred light years in a few weeks. When the warp drive was not in use, the ship's annular-warp nacelle was dropped into the vertical position; when the engines were powered down, or preparing to launch its auxiliary craft, the nacelle was folded horizontally into the primary hull. The bridge for the D'Kyr-type includes a panel where the commanding officer stands when speaking over the comm.

The sickbay aboard this class was located on deck 5, and consists of a relatively small room with a single central biobed inside a transparent tube. The bed has wrist and ankle restraints for unwilling patients, and diagnostic controls on the transparent material. On the opposite wall of the entrance is a large white symbol, probably related to Vulcan medical services.  On the Engineering deck was an auxiliary control room that can control the ships main functions if the main engine room and Bridge are inoperable or unreachable. It has a round console in the center, which is directly below an access hatch to the access tubes. The controls there can control the power distribution net and if need be, overload it to destroy the ship.

Around the walls of the room are monitors that show Engineering read-outs, sensor telemetry, and on a flat wall opposite the door is a communications panel. At the bottom of that wall is two vents that hexafluorine gas can be vented into if the control room is taken over by hostile forces. The bulkhead controls (usually routed to the control room via deck 9) can be rerouted through the auxiliary grid instead if need be. A series of command actuator circuits are in the central panel which control the door locking mechanisms. They could overload if not sequenced properly when being realigned, shocking anyone attempting to access the panel once power has been routed into it.

Starships of this type are equipped with a large shuttlebay (part of which is located on deck 7) that spans from bottom to top of the mid-section of the ship, just in front of the warp-ring area, and the auxiliary ship that docks inside the warp ring. Vessels of this type are usually equipped with at least two shuttlecraft.


The design of the Suurok class possessed a long, cylindrical primary hull and a unique circular, ring shaped warp drive. During the 2150s, this design was among the fastest and most powerful starships operating in the Vulcan fleet.

The Suurok possessed a top speed of Warp 6.5 in the science vessel variant. The combat vessel variant could go to Warp 7. The technology behind this advancement was considered "classified" as of 2151 from Earth Starfleet.

The Suurok was armed with standard particle beam weapons. In combat, these vessels were capable of disabling, if not destroying, a force of three Mazarite warships in a confrontation. The Suurok-class also possessed tractor beam technology which was considered "classified" from Earth Starfleet. The tractor beam emitter was located on the lower section of the primary hull, in front of the warp drive.



This Andorian battle cruiser was considerably more rugged than the designs utilized by contemporary United Earth-Starfleet vessels. Like all Andorian combat vessels, the Kumari battle cruiser was constructed with a "significant quantity" of duranium alloy. Despite the vessels larger size, it was crewed with an operating complement of eighty-six.

The outboard plan of the Andorian battle cruiser's design consisted of a central "spine" that contained a vertically bifurcated forward hull, which contained several decks. The central "spine" gradually narrowed towards the aft section of the ship where it connected to two vertically stacked warp nacelles. Located midway down the "spine" were a pair of forward-swept wings which contained the impulse engines and defensive systems.

The defensive systems utilized by the Andorian battle cruiser included a formidable array of particle cannons including forward cannon emplacements, port and starboard wing emitters, and dorsal and ventral emitters that were capable of firing in a 180 degree arc. The cannons on the wings possibly contained multiple emitters or an array system, based on the observation that beams were emitted from various points therein.

Despite the advantage it had over other inferior vessels of this era thanks to the utilization of shield technology, this class was most susceptible to attacks directed towards the shield generator. The shield generator itself was distantly located from power grid.

During the 2150s, Andorian technology was considered to be more advanced than Tellarite technology of the time. One Tellarite cruiser would not "stand a chance" against two Andorian warships. The Andorian battle cruiser was comparable in firepower to the Xindi-Reptilian warship and the Vulcan's D'Kyr-type combat cruiser.

Andorian battle cruisers utilized warp drive technology that was more advanced than Starfleet's warp five engine, allowing Andorian vessels to be "considerably faster" than Earth's NX class starship. These vessels could travel at speeds that were described at the time as "high warp."

One of the contributing technological factors utilized in their warp drive design was the use of antimatter injectors with variable compression nozzles. In 2153, knowledge of this type of "sophisticated piece of technology" was still considered to be "rather sensitive information." The long-range sensors utilized on board the Andorian battle cruiser was "more sophisticated" than those utilized on board Starfleet's NX class. These sensors were capable of scanning a star system without betraying the vessels presence. Contrarily, its short-range sensors were detectable by vessels that were being scanned. These type of sensors were innocently referred to as being "omni-directional" by Commander Shran during a series of scans run on a number of Xindi starships in 2153.

Like Vulcan ships of the era, Andorian battle cruisers were equipped with a tractor beam. The emitter was located on the ship's forward dorsal section. Additionally, these warships were equipped with transporters capable of performing site-to-site transport. Use of these transporters was detectable by internal sensors merely as a brief energy surge. The Andorian battle cruiser housed at least one shuttle. They also carried multiple escape pods.



The Raptor-class scout vessel was a small battle cruiser utilized by the Klingon Empire during the mid-22nd century.

The Klingon Raptor was a type of scout ship first encountered by the Vulcans sometime prior to 2151. As such, the vessel was listed in the Vulcan database, however, much of the information on the class remained classified. The first Earth encounter with a Raptor came in 2151, when the Starfleet ship Enterprise stumbled across the disabled IKS Somraw within the atmosphere of a class 9 gas giant, where it was being crushed by the planet's brutal atmospheric pressures.

With the crew apparently incapacitated, an Enterprise boarding party worked to restore the ship's propulsion systems and regain altitude. Though eventually successful, the boarding party became trapped on the ship, allowing them time to explore the interior of a Klingon vessel – the first Humans to ever do so.

According to the Vulcan database, this vessel was identified as a "scout vessel", but was later recalled by Jonathan Archer to be a "battle cruiser". The outboard plan of the Raptor utilized the same basic avian design that would be further incorporated into a classic and noble warship lineage. It was similar in design lineage as the D5 class battle cruiser, and Bird-of-Prey variant.

The bridge module is separated from the main body by a thin neck that flares out into the up-swept wings, which contain the warp nacelles. The Raptor's outer hull was reinforced with a type of coherent molecular alloy made it capable of withstanding atmospheric pressure of 15,000 GSC, or that found in a class 9 gas giant at an approximate depth of 2 kilometers. Overall, the Raptor's hull was twice as thick as that of Starfleet's NX class.

The impulse engine is located, like most Klingon starship classes, at the extreme aft section of the main structure. The various components of the propulsion system included a fusion manifold as well as port and starboard fusion injectors.  Like its D5-class counterpart of the same era, the Raptor was outfitted with standard multi-spectral sensors, which included tactical sensors, and shields. The Raptor-class's tactical systems included a disruptor array and photon torpedo launchers, including one positioned on the ship's dorsal section. The primary weapon array was located on the dorsal section of the ship.  The sensor array utilized on board the Raptor was described as being "pretty standard multi-spectral sensors," not unlike those used on Starfleet's NX-class. The Raptor class was not equipped with any form of escape pod.


During the mid-22nd century, the Klingon Empire operated a type of small warship known as the Klingon Bird-of-Prey. This class is one of the earliest class of starships encountered by Earth Starfleet during the early 2150s. The first encounter occurred on the outer perimeter of the Sol system in early 2153. Starfleet, however, had known of the existence of these ships as early as late 2151.

This Bird-of-Prey design was revamped over the next two centuries, and was used to represent several different variations of this class that were collectively known under the same name. Comparable in design to its sister classes, the Raptor-class scout and D5-class battle cruiser, the exterior design of the Bird-of-Prey utilized the same basic avian design, including vaguely feather-like hull plating on its wings.

The bulk of the ship's overall mass was incorporated in the aft section of the ship. The bridge module was located on a bulbous forward section, which was separated from the aft section by a relatively thin connective section that attached to and flared into the aft portion, which sweept down below the main body forming wings.

Located on the caudal section of the ship were the ship's shuttlebay, impulse engines and warp nacelles. The nacelles were positioned on the extreme upper aft section of the ship, perpendicular to the impulse engine.

The offensive arsenal of the Bird-of-Prey was rather impressive, for the time, as the ship possessed at least eight forward disruptor banks, including a twin-pair of neck-mounted disruptor cannons, a pair of wing-tip mounted disruptor cannons, and a 360º rotating turret containing twin belly-mounted disruptor cannons. The class was also equipped with dual photon torpedo launchers, positioned fore and aft, and defensive shields. This class, however, had minimal aft weapons.

Prior to the refitting of Enterprise, one Bird-of-Prey was more than a match with the NX class; however, it was unable to repel three older Earth vessels at one time. After Enterprise was upgraded, it was nearly an even match with the Bird-of-Prey. This class of Bird-of-Prey could outgun an Orion interceptor, two to one. It was stated by Arik Soong that the Enterprise outgunned their Bird-of-Prey "three to one." It is unclear if this statement, which seems unfair based on previous encounters, was Soong being overly cautious of the situation, or if his statement reflected the current condition of their vessel, which had sustained some damage at that time and was limited to warp 3.8.

This class of vessel was equipped with tractor beam technology. It had one emitter located on the underside of each wing that, when used in conjunction, could be used to manipulate a ship to its belly docking port. Unlike the Raptor class, this class of Bird-of-Prey was equipped with escape pods. The Bird-of-Prey's escape pod hatch was also located on the belly of the ship.

One major flaw of the Bird-of-Prey's design was found at the nape of the ship's neck and primary hull; a direct hit on the main plasma junction, located above the sensor array, could disable the entire power grid. The shuttlebay was located on the extreme aft of the ship, directly below the impulse engines. It was large enough in capacity to store a Denobulan medical ship.



The Xindi-Reptilian warship was a large warship utilized by the Xindi-Reptilians during the mid-22nd century. They were capable of maintaining operations with a crew of twenty-two. These vessels were heavily armed with particle beam weapons and torpedoes; well-suited for the Reptilians' aggressive nature. However, they were not as well-armed as the powerful Xindi-Aquatic scout ships, which were of similar size but were much more advanced.

Ships of this type were first encountered by Enterprise during its mission in the Delphic Expanse in the fall of 2153, when the Reptilians mounted an assault on the ship to extract the Xindi spy Rajiin. Two of these ships proved to be approximately an even match for Enterprise.

Although the ship was designed primarily by the Reptilians, Degra (a Primate Xindi) did some work on the vessel's power systems. This provided him with crucial knowledge that allowed his weaker ship to attack and destroy one of these vessels when it attacked Enterprise in early 2154.

Reptilian ships were equipped with sensor encoders. In the event a ship was destroyed, a Reptilian analysis team could determine the cause of its destruction.


The Xindi Insectoid ship was a type of warship used by the aggressive Xindi-Insectoids in the 2150s. It consisted of a small central core containing the drive system and three extended wing-like sections extending forward, mounted at 120º angles along the fore-aft axis. The ships were heavily armed with pulse-firing particle cannons and torpedoes. They were also highly decentralized in layout, possessing no central control room, reflecting the non-hierarchical nature of Insectoid culture. There was at least one room that has a viewscreen for communications.

In early 2154, Enterprise discovered the wreckage of a crashed Insectoid ship while traveling to the Azati Prime system. The Enterprise crew discovered that the adult crew had died when they transferred power from life support to power the on-board hatchery, protecting their young. Insectoid ships participated in the attack on Enterprise at Azati Prime, as well as the battles to stop the Xindi super weapon in February of 2154.


The Xindi Aquatic cruiser was a type of starship used by the Xindi-Aquatics during the 22nd century. The vessel was at least 1800 meters long, heavily armed, and equipped with the most advanced technology of any of the five Xindi species. The ship featured a hydrodynamic, swept-wing hull structure and a large hangar bay in the primary section that could be used to carry other starships.

These ships had at least one small room where oxygen-breathing humanoids could come aboard and communicate with the Aquatic crew.

One of these cruisers participated in the battle to stop the Xindi super weapon, after it was commandeered by the Xindi-Reptilians, and transported the Enterprise into the battle. It was disabled during the battle by a spatial anomaly generated by a nearby Sphere. Another cruiser transported the Enterprise back to Earth following the successful destruction of the weapon probably to shorten the trip as a thanks for destroying the Spheres and Sphere Builders.
