MEHRUN LAKE A PRIDE OF JALGAON

Mr. Ganesh Sonar and his efforts for conservation of birds in Jalgaon for last 20 years, become a part of his effort towards conservation.


Mehrun A Paradise :- Beautiful Nature is just not a collection of organism, but an emotion that is created when biotic and abiotic factors expresses them in full mood.

Mehrun lake is one such beautiful mood of nature where every organism associated with the ecosystem of Mehrun performs is beautiful role in this ecosystem. My request to every resident people of jalgaon is watch the beautiful site of Mehrun and take part in maintainance of its beauty.

Some Birds of Mehrun Lake :- 


Little Ringed Plover ( charadrius dubius ): A common residential migrant , that usually arrives            at the the early winter seasons and breeds from February - April. Lays egg on bare land and totally camouflaged with the ground. And could be seen easily on the banks of Mehrun Lake.

Black winged stilt ( Himantopus himantopus ): A winter visitor to Mehrun lake. Could be observed in group of 5-20 on banks of Mehrun lake, some isolated singles could occur. Breeds in Nothern Western parts of Asia and some part of America.

Spoon Bill ( Platalea leucorodia ) : Occurs throughout Indian continent and breeds in Southern part of India. Early only 2-3 Spoon Bills were recorde but for this year there are 7 individuals at mehrun lake.

Black Ibis ( Pseudibis papillosa ) : Occurs throughout Indian continent, resident breeding on top of large trees, Mobile towers, Water Tanks etc. Present in a group of 2-4 individuals on Mehrun lake.

Grey Heron ( Ardea cinerea ) : Occurs throughout Indian continent,Breeds in Southern parts of India. Individual or sometimes pair could be observed at banks of Mehrun lake.

Lesser Whistling Duck ( Dendrocygna javanica ) : Occurs throughout Indian continent,Breeds in Southern parts of India and Srilanka. A flock of 10-15 could be observed during day times on Mehrun Lake.

Spot Billed Duck ( Anas poecilorhyncha ) : Occurs throughout Indian continent,Breeds throughout Indian Subcontinent, breeds at mehrun Lake and other Dams . A flock of 2-15 could be observed during day times on Mehrun Lake, While isolated Ducks with their ducklings could be seen.

Shikra ( Accipiter badius ) : Occurs throughout Indian continent,Breeds throughout Indian Subcontinent, breeds at tree tops . Single or pair could be observed commonly in Jalgaon.
