Sunday Services at West Bergholt & Langham with Boxted Churches
Rev Mandy Elmes is also the Priest-in-Charge for the parishes of West Bergholt and Langham with Boxted, and is therefore not able to be at all her churches every Sunday. If you are interested in going along to any of the services at her other churches, please see the schedule of services attached at the bottom of this page.

Pattern of Sunday services
In response to comments from church members we have standardised the times of the main morning service to 11.15am. To accommodate this, the monthly 8.30am Book of Common Prayer Holy Communion Service changes to 8.00am on the 4th Sunday of the month.
The normal pattern will still be:
1st & 3rd Sundays - St John's
2nd & 4th Sundays - All Saints
Please note, however, that there are several exceptions to this pattern, particularly at Easter and Christmas time. Please see the What's On page for full details.

Thinking of a wedding soon?In the last few years it has become much easier to marry in church. The regulations about which church you can be married in have been relaxed and it can be much cheaper than many of the commercial venues that are licensed for weddings.

About All Saints' and St. John's Churches

We are the two Church of England places of worship in the Essex village of Great Horkesley.

Our buildings provide the venues for Sunday services and the christenings, marriages and funerals associated with the Christian faith of the people who live in the village.

All Saints'

The Parish Church of All Saints’ is at the extreme north end of the village.

All Saints' Church is a fine grade 1 listed building dating from the 12th Century with 14th and 15th century additions. Much restoration work has been done over the years to maintain it in good condition so that it can continue to play a part in the ongoing life of the community.

Apart from being regularly used for Christian worship, it is also the venue for Baptisms (Christenings), weddings and of course funerals. It is also where the Parish burial ground is situated.

St. John's

The small St. John’s Church is within the main residential part of the village and is normally used alternatively with the Parish church for Sunday services.

The original building is about 200 years old, and was acquired for the Church in Gt. Horkesley by Capt. Kelso at the beginning of the 19th Century. The original building consisted of the Nave only, the Chancel & Vestry being later additions. A separate meeting room known as St. John’s Room was added in the 1970‘s, and a toilet and a kitchen added; the whole building is now grade 2 listed.

St. John’s Room is used during the week for  the Pram 'n' Chat baby and toddler group.
