CULTURAL AND OPINION DYNAMICS

MODELING, EXPERIMENTS AND CHALLENGES FOR THE FUTURE

24th SEPTEMBER 2014

SATELLITE MEETING AT ECCS'14

ORGANIZERS
Timoteo Carletti & Floriana Gargiulo
(naXys, Univeristy of Namur, Belgium)

Guillaume Deffuant & Sylvie Huet
(LISC, IRSTEA, Clermont-Ferrand, France)

Katarzyna Sznajd-Weron
(Institute of Physics, Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland)

Pawel Sobkowicz
(Nat. Cen. for Nuclear Res., University of Warsaw, Poland)

Andrea Guazzini
(CSDC, University of Florence, Italy)

GOALS

The aims of the workshop are:

  • To draw collectively the "state of the art" of the currently available main families of hypotheses (models) and the applicability domains, the corresponding set of emergent dynamics (results) and the – possible - role of the different hypotheses about the type of network of interactions.
  • To reduce the gap with social experiments and to go beyond the disciplines borders, by interacting with social-psychologists to learn about the current state of experiments. To find a common framework to design new experimental techniques based on modern technologies (sensor devices, smartphones apps, internet interfaces).
  • To discuss the model validation with real data and analyze which kind of stylized fact of reality are reproduced.
  • To foster the research by exchanging knowledge concerning methods for abstract models, for the set of emergent phenomena.
  • To discuss the main challenges to address by the field in the years to come, both theoretically and experimentally, with a particular emphasis to web collected experimental data.
PROSPECTIVE AUDIENCE

Researchers from different domains such as physics, mathematics, cognition, social science modeling, opinion dynamics, network, computer science are potential partners. In the past ECCS conferences, social dynamics talks have been presented, spread in different tracks, with a particular attention addressed to opinion dynamics models and complex network approaches.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS, SELECTION STANDARDS AND AGENDA

Original works should be submitted using the easychair platform by the 15th of June, only extended abstracts, i.e.not longer than two A4 pages using 11pts Times New Roman fonts (or equivalent ones), will be considered. We encourage you to include in your submission the following sections :

  • State of the art;
  • Aim;
  • Method;
  • Results ;
  • Conclusions .

The authors of the selected paper will be informed by the 1st of August

Each paper, made anonymous, will be reviewed by two reviewers among the program committee members. Each paper will be ranked on several dimensions such as clarity, quality of the review, innovation, quality of the analysis.

A selection of the best papers should be envisaged for a topical issue of Advances for Complex Systems.

The topical issue "ECCS'13-CODYM 2013" will be published in ACS during 2014.
Even for the present edition there is the possibility of a topic issue on ACS for papers presented at CODYM14.
