(Future) Vatican Department of Strategic Nonviolence

Welcome to the Catholic Nonviolence Initiative's global Roundtable V on  power of nonviolence: experience, principles, methods and effectiveness This is an 18-month project sponsored by Pax Christi International and the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development at the Vatican.

The Catholic Nonviolence Initiative began at a gathering in Rome in April 2016 that brought together lay people, theologians, members of religious congregations, priests, and bishops from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Oceania to call on the Roman Catholic Church to take a clear stand for active nonviolence and against all forms of violence.

At that gathering, Pope Francis said, "Your thoughts on revitalizing the tools of nonviolence, and active nonviolence in particular, will be a needed and positive contribution."  Because of your significant contributions in the area of contemporary active nonviolence, we are honoured to have you as part of this CNI Roundtable 5 community.

In all there are five global Roundtables (or "virtual conversations") hosted by CNI between August  2017 and October 2018. Their themes are: nonviolence and Catholic theology, nonviolence and scripture, nonviolence and a new moral framework, integrating nonviolence into church structures, and models of contemporary, active, effective, strategic nonviolence (Roundtable 5).

Our goal is to "move the needle" on centering nonviolent methodology and practice in the Vatican and throughout Catholic institutions around the world to effectively counter the types of violent conflict that the majority of people encounter.
