Welcome to CMU Sleeps

Who Are We?

We are a team of students and faculty who are trying to have a positive impact on Carnegie Mellon student wellness. We're taking a course called Campus Stress as a Wicked Problem. You could take it, too, this spring.

Why Are We Doing This?

We think lack of sleep is a cause of stress. Some students at Carnegie Mellon thrive and get adequate amounts of sleep while other students can't seem to accomplish that. What are those successful students doing well? Can others learn from them? CMUSleeps is a way to collect data that gets at these questions.

We're asking students to send us data. We'll send you a weekly rating and display the aggregated data we receive for each day here. It will also tell you how much sleep the average student is getting.

Why Should You Contribute?

You could win something! Each week we have a raffle, where users could win wireless headphones or a FitBit. For every day you upload data, you get a lottery ticket for future raffles. Note: the amount of sleep you get will not impact your chances of winning.

How does this all work?

  1. We record your sleep data.
  2. We'll send you an email rating the quality of your sleep and show the average for everyone participating in the study.
  3. Every time you send data, we issue you a lottery ticket and put it in the weekly pool. After each week we draw one ticket from the pool. If the ticket is yours, you win a FitBit or wireless headphones. Note: the quality of your sleep doesn't affect your chances in the lottery.

What's the Catch?

We will not divulge anything about your sleep data to anyone outside our teamWe'll use everyone's data to get a continuous estimate of campus sleep behavior.  We may send you emails someday inviting you to an interview or event. If you wish to be entirely anonymous contact us at feedback@cmusleeps.net.
