The Art Program at Corvallis Middle School has many goals:

*To educate students about the basic methods, materials, and principles of art. This includes exposure to the work of other artists through history, aspects of art criticism, the many functions of art, and basic skills for making their own artworks.

*To nurture the creative part of all kids and to strive for success for all students, regardless of whether they consider themselves to be "artistic" or not.

*For students to connect the art that they see around them and the artworks that they create, with their own life experiences.

*To ease students through the four-year transition: from the young child's outlook on art experiences as a fourth grader entering middle school, to a maturing view of art as a discipline and vital creative part of his education as he prepares to enter high school.
