1989 - 1980
The decade that gave us Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Yuppies, Rubik’s cube, Live Aid and CDs started with continuing industrial unrest, rampant inflation and a war. It had more than its fair share of disasters (natural, man-made and fashion), but by the end it had seen the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War.

Sebastian Coe and Torvill and Dean won gold medals at Olympic Games. Prince Charles and Diana Spencer were married, and Princes William and Harry were born. Through it all we listened, on our Sony Walkmans, to Madonna, Whitney Houston and the New Romantics; and we were gripped by a new television series: Eastenders.

In Chislehurst, Scadbury Park was purchased by the London Borough of Bromley and opened to the public in 1985.
